EmblemHealth, one of the nation's largest non-profit health insurers, is seeking a Public Relations Strategist to join our growing team. You are: a self-starter and active listener with a keen eye for a story angle and a strong executive presence. We are: an iconic New York brand with an 80-year legacy and a start-up mentality. Your primary focus will be building the profile and brand reputation of EmblemHealth and its provider practice, AdvantageCare Physicians, through earned media. Reporting to the Director, Marketing & Public Relations and working hand-in-hand with EmblemHealth's Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, you will join a team of creative and innovative storytellers—social media strategists, grassroots marketers, videographers and more—working to elevate our brands through earned and owned content.

Earned Media
- Build a forward-looking earned media communications strategy for EmblemHealth and AdvantageCare Physicians.
- Foster strong relationships with local and national reporters and proactively pitch stories.
- Develop creative strategies and tactics to amplify EmblemHealth's earned strategy, including podcasts, influencer partnerships, online publishing platforms (e.g., Medium) and paid opportunities (e.g., advertorials, sponsored e-blasts).
- Develop and maintain a segmented enterprise media list, including regional, national, industry, employer and multicultural publications.
- Identify and maintain relationships with elected officials, key clients, union leadership, bloggers and other influencers.
- Identify conferences, external committees and organizations that align with EmblemHealth's mission and values.
Brand Storytelling & Editorial
- Identify trends and opportunities in health care to support opportunistic storytelling about EmblemHealth. Proactively pursue stories that differentiate EmblemHealth and elevate our brands, mining publications, internal subject matter experts, research, and other resources.
- Draft public relations materials, including press releases, positioning papers, blog posts, executive-bylined articles, and talking points.
- Collaborate with EmblemHealth's in-house videographer to develop content showcasing EmblemHealth's thought leadership.
- Provide live social media and blog coverage of conferences and executive-level events in partnership with EmblemHealth's Social Media Team.
- Establish a stable of media-trained internal subject matter experts for conferences, speaking opportunities and live interviews.
- Maintain corporate and editorial calendar to amplify the ROI of earned and owned content.
- Maintain pulse on competitive landscape by sending articles, op-eds, podcasts, breaking news and information on relevant trends to executive leadership.
Project Management & Training
- Manage relationship with EmblemHealth's PR agency and consultants; coordinate with advertising agencies and other partners to identify story angles.
- Lead press trainings for executives, and partner with EmblemHealth's Social Media Team to conduct LinkedIn audits and trainings.
- Provide proactive, hands-on support at corporate and community events where there is a media presence. Coordinate press invites and brief executives prior to events.
- Provide recap of events, including photos, key highlights, coverage and content that can be leveraged on social media.
- Maintain press sections of EmblemHealth and AdvantageCare Physicians' websites and intranet sites.
Success Criteria
- Experience building profiles of organizations and its leaders through earned and owned media, including press releases, op-eds, remarks and blog content.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate and thrive in a fast-paced media environment, including unpredictable hours and crisis situations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage through influence with professionalism and poise. This position will have direct access to EmblemHealth's President & CEO and executive leadership.
- Candidates should feel comfortable building and executing communications strategies, managing projects and building one-on-one relationships with business leaders to implement strategies.
- Passionate about mission-driven brands and storytelling.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism.
- 4-6 years' experience in public relations and communications, including time spent on political or advocacy campaigns. Health care experience/knowledge a strong plus.
- Candidate should have knowledge of and/or interest in the health care and policy landscape
