This position also supports Community Change Action, an affiliated 501(c)(4) advocacy organization. Position Description:
The Immigration Field Director is a high-level campaigner. This position is responsible for implementing a nationally coordinated campaign with Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) member organizations focused on building the power and capacity of the immigrant rights movement and achieving state and federal policy immigration reform change. Currently, FIRM is advancing a national "Keeping Families Together Campaign" aimed at securing comprehensive immigration reform. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, experienced organizer, good manager, and strategic thinker capable of producing consistent quality work in a fast-paced environment.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary staff person to manage the work of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), a campaign of Community Change.
- Work with the FIRM network to oversee and implement immigration reform campaign components at the local, state and national level.
- Build and nurture relationships with local and state organizations across the country, and assist in promoting collective action on common agendas, specifically field strategies to win comprehensive immigration reform.
- Work with Community Change's Communications and Digital Strategy teams to elevate attention to immigrant issues and campaigns in traditional and news media.
- Coordinate field/online strategies to build the list of immigration reform supporters across the country.
- Directly responsible for clear communication and alignment on strategy direction for the immigration team.
- Coordinate and direct research, planning, and writing assignments as needed.
- Consistently manage time, ensuring delivery dates on benchmarks and goals, identifying and coming up with solutions to problems.
- Support the evaluation of ongoing field plans through team reflections to track progress and learn from effective/ineffective practices
- Supervise and support the work of the field team, including the evaluation, development of talent, skill and capacity of field organizers
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Immigrant Rights
Qualifications:
- Seven to ten years of organizing experience with community-based, grassroots, and/or coalition organizations.
- Experience in supervising a team of organizers, and working at a high level in strategic partnerships.
- Familiarity with grassroots advocacy, at either the federal or state level, including experience with national campaigns to secure policy change.
- Familiarity with online technology (email/sms/mobile tools) and electoral tools (VAN, Catalist) for use in field campaigns.
- Demonstrated ability to create a sense of community among disparate organizations and leaders towards common purpose.
- Capacity and willingness to travel frequently.
- Experience and comfort working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work effectively with people of different cultures.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to produce consistent, quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
- Comfortable using cloud-based technology including Google Suite and dynamic databases like Salesforce.
- Commitment to advancing economic and race and gender justice.
This person reports to: Director of Immigrant Rights
Supervisory Responsibility: This position will supervise four immigration regional organizers. The number of direct reports is subject to change.
Classification: Community Change recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is not included in Community Change's bargaining unit and therefore not covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
Travel Requirements: 40%-60% of the time.
Salary & benefits: Starting annual salary of $95,000. Community Change also offers an excellent benefits package, which includes 4 weeks of annual paid vacation; additional paid holiday leave between December 24 and January 1; 8% employer contribution to retirement account after six months of employment (and 3% employer contribution for the first 6 months); and a choice of generous health insurance plans.
