Campaign for Accountability (CfA), a nonprofit government watchdog organization focused on public accountability, is seeking a research associate for an expanded project holding large technology platforms accountable.
CfA is a small nonprofit dedicated to uncovering ethical problems and malfeasance in public life. CfA operates the Google Transparency Project (GTP), which investigates the political influence and ethical shortcomings of Google. CfA is expanding its focus to include additional tech platforms and seeks a research associate to support its work. CfA's Research Associate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the material produced and released. This person will also support CfA's social media posts with unique and in-depth research and will help generate content for reports and articles. The ideal candidate will have experience with fact-checking, editing, and familiarity with large datasets.
The position is located in Washington, D.C.
Essential Responsibilities
- Fact check all of CfA's projects and articles regarding technology companies.
- Review FOIA documents, ethics filings, campaign finance reports, and other primary sources to generate articles and reports.
- Provide research and content for CfA's social media posts.
- Draft short blog posts to be published on CfA's website.
- Proofread articles and scrutinize datasets to detect all errors.
- Coordinate fact checking and reports among CfA's staff and contractors.
- Collect and distribute news clips.
- Execute additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience working in government, advocacy, journalism, or politics.
- Strong organizational and project-management abilities.
- Exceptional writing, research, and verbal communications skills.
- Familiarity with research databases including PACER and LexisNexis.
- Detail oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
- Proactive problem solver.
- Highly collaborative and comfortable coordinating with multiple teams.
- Self-starter able to work independently.
