RESEARCH & COMMS ASSOCIATE


A Better Wisconsin Together (ABWT), the new progressive state communications and research hub in
Wisconsin, is seeking a research and communications associate to join our team. We're an advocacy organization focused on public policy and serving as a center for progressive message development, testing and communications. This is an exciting position where you will be at the heart of testing and implementing cutting edge program strategy to advance progressive values. Along with rapid response and earned media, ABWT will engage Wisconsinites on issues using paid digital, television and radio communications.


This is an associate level position based in Madison, Wisconsin, but may require some travel, as well as evening and weekend hours, as needed.  We are a small, nimble team working in a fast-paced environment on the frontlines of the fight to advance progressive values and policies in Wisconsin. The job requires a candidate with the ability to take direction, as well as be self-directed in solo and collaborative environments. Attention to detail is a must.  


Research and Communication Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of the Deputy Director, research, write, and prepare background information, reports and presentations regarding public policy issues and public figures;

  • Conduct open records requests and update staff on additional research;

  • Prepare and update media clips and coverage;

  • Monitor and track social media and outlets including radio, television and newsprint; 

  • Assist with research on targeted projects such as right wing and media accountability and provide research for potential new websites;

  • Assist in creating written and video content for social media; 

  • Assist in composing earned media releases, columns and press pitches.  


Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication;

  • Ability to work independently and without specific daily direction;

  • Willingness to work in team-oriented environment;

  • Computer proficiency with working knowledge of social networks, Microsoft office, and Google Docs;

  • Working knowledge of research resources including, but not limited to LexisNexis, Google and other online resources;

  • Dependable, hard-working and passionate; willingness to go "above-and-beyond" a plus; flexibility to work outside of regular business hours and away from office a plus.
