Position Summary:

The director leads complex projects with broad-reaching impact utilizing project management tools and best practices, and partners across teams to execute and implement solutions. The director effectively builds and leverages relationships across the organization to uncover needs and opportunities, and effectively problem-solves in order to make recommendations and garner support for a proposed path forward. The director also contributes strategically to the tech team and looks for opportunities to increase impact through reporting back to the subteam and larger team on learnings from project work.

Position Location: Flexible 

Travel Requirements: 15% for team retreats and occasional project-related travel

Responsibilities:

Project Management (90%)

  • Oversee and manage complex and/or broad-reaching high-impact projects including:
    • Requirements gathering
    • Resource management
    • Communication management
    • Stakeholder management
    • Time management
    • Rollout & initial user adoption
  • Help to ensure that projects are on track by understanding and reporting on progress to Senior Director (SD). Work to get projects back on track, as needed.
  • Track project deadlines, success measures, and impact goals and help ensure that these are met.
  • Look for opportunities to connect project work with other projects or organizational priorities through subteam meetings and other conversations with Technology Team staff

Strategic Contributions (10%)

  • Participate in opportunities to give feedback on team strategy and better understand the strategic direction of the team and the organization, including Technology Team Leadership Team (LT) meetings as invited
  • Serve as an organizational leader and look for opportunities to lift up opportunities for greater impact and innovation to the SD
  • Participate in committees or working groups outside of projects as agreed on with SD
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience 
  • 3 years project management experience, including waterfall projects, with demonstrated experience in key functional areas:
    • Stakeholder communication
    • Goal-setting
    • Timeline management
    • Budget management
    • Risk management
    • Monitor & control / plan adjustment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate within a geographically dispersed team and across lines of difference including identity, tech savvy, communication styles, and job level
  • Experience translating initial requirements into the problem to be solved and evaluating the potential impact and cost of solving different problems
  • Experience working with stakeholders who have differing priorities or requirements, including senior-level staff, and successfully influencing / aligning around a recommended path forward
  • Experience controlling scope, budget, and timeline on large projects

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP certification
  • Experience managing both agile and waterfall projects
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and make recommendations "out of the box"
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion
  • Deep passion for educational equity and belief in LEE's mission and theory of change
