Position Purpose:
SEIU is hiring a Wisconsin State Field Director, which will oversee the execution of our 2020 Independent Expenditure Field Program. The State Field Director is responsible for the overall success of the state's Presidential field campaign. As an independent expenditure the State FIeld Director is prohibited from coordinating and/or contacting Presidential candidates and their campaigns. This position is project-based beginning in March and ending November 2020.
Primary Responsibilities:
The State Field Director is a leadership position and responsible for managing the field program, assigned staff and related political activities. In this role the State Field Director will work with the Campaign Directors to manage, direct and implement Wisconsin's political field program with a primary focus on the 2020 Presidential General Election.
Essential Functions:
- Work collaboratively with the Midwest Deputy Director, assigned IU Directors, State Council Director and Staff Leads to implement a state-wide voter contact plan - inclusive of a door-to-door canvass.
- Communicate to partners and others as designated Wisconsin's field / political execution plans.
- Monitor field staff metrics, established goals, micro-targeting data and assist with the management of the state's political budget.
- Provide adequate updates to the WI State Director, Midwest Deputy Director and lead staff as outlined regarding For Our Future, America Votes and State Victory Fund's resources and relevant information to the SEIU program.
- Conduct initial and ongoing staff leadership training utilizing best practices reflective of SEIU's values as embraced by partners and International Union on key topics inclusive of the Race Class Narrative, Unions for All, Fight for $15 campaign and the state's organizing campaigns.
- Coordinates with the Regional Logistics Coordinator to ensure timely receipt of pay, benefits, and reimbursements for all staff, as well as all logistical needs in the field.
- Represent SEIU at IE Table meetings.
Requirements:
- Knowledge and/or experience working with community-based organizations (including neighborhood, religious, and civic organizations) and willingness to do outreach to community groups and leaders.
- Thorough knowledge of political campaign strategies & understanding SEIU's 2020 goals in Wisconsin.
- Experience managing field campaigns and voter contact databases [i.e. VAN, Google Suite].
- Ability to implement field plans and operate autonomously in the field.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to develop as well as maintain good working relationships.
- Strong organizational and management skills in a fast paced environments (teams, time, work plans, deadlines etc).
- Must be willing to work long and irregular hours.
- Some travel required.
Experience and Education:
- Five to seven years of political campaign or other relevant experience.
- Knowledge of unions and issues that affect working people.
- Knowledge of voter registration and voter protection work.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
