Leadership for Educational Equity is a nonprofit leadership development organization inspiring and supporting a network of civic leaders to eradicate the injustice of educational inequity.

Position Summary:

The Director, Learning, Development, & Inclusion will serve on the Leadership Development & Design team and manage a portfolio of National Impact programs to support growth in LEE members' leadership and their knowledge, skills, mindsets, and behaviors related to our organizing pipeline. The Director will design and oversee the execution of high-quality virtual, in-person, and blended learning experiences that are grounded in LEE's pedagogy and liberatory consciousness development model. The Director will also provide leadership, expertise, and coaching to member-facing staff on virtual and blended learning across all National Impact pipelines.

The role requires both independent design and collaboration across the National Impact team and LEE. In particular, the Director will collaborate with LEE's Organizing Leadership team in the refinement of organizing leadership curriculum, LEE's Regional Impact team in support of their facilitation and implementation of regional and virtual programming, and LEE's Blended Learning Community of Practice. The Director will also need to collaborate with other LEE staff to rigorously track and analyze data, design program/project evaluation metrics, and make strategic shifts in response to staff and member needs.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate passion for and demonstrated success in adult leadership development and facilitation; strong expertise in virtual and blended learning; and familiarity with community organizing skills and knowledge. Through this work, the Director ensures that LEE members are supported, inspired, and empowered to seek and pursue leadership opportunities at all levels that will help to achieve educational equity and excellence for all children.

The Director, Learning, Development, and Inclusion will report directly to the Senior Director, Learning, Development, and Inclusion.

Position Location: Flexible (Washington, DC, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles preferred)

Travel Requirements: 30% including nationwide travel by plane at least three times a year


Responsibilities:

Leadership Development and Facilitation (50%)

  • Design and facilitate high-quality blended leadership development experiences to support the growth of LEE members' leadership and their knowledge, skills, mindsets, and behaviors related to organizing
  • In collaboration with LEE's Organizing Leadership team, design and refine content and curriculum for virtual, in-person, and blended programs
  • Design and lead facilitation training approaches to support staff in implementing regional leadership programming focused on organizing
  • Design and facilitate high-quality learning experiences rooted in the liberatory consciousness development model related to member identity exploration, systems of oppression, liberation, equity, and more
  • Collaborate with Organizing Leadership and Regional Impact team partners to ensure content and design alignment that leads to both individual leadership growth and conversion into roles within LEE's regional Organizing Alliances 
  • Lead the design, management, facilitation, and evaluation of the National Organizing Workshop, a blended leadership development experience for members of LEE's Organizing Alliances

Virtual and Blended Learning Leadership (30%)

  • Lead the integration of LEE's virtual and blended leadership development methodology and design principles into all National Impact team's member-facing programming
  • Provide coaching, consultation, and content review to LEE's member-facing virtual leadership programming and online courses across all National Impact pipelines, including Policy/Advocacy, Organizing and Elected
  • Support the development of best practices in virtual facilitation, communities, and programming
  • Support and facilitate LEE's Blended Learning Community of Practice

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Support (15%)

  • Support the refinement of LEE curriculum and learning experiences programming to strengthen inclusion
  • Design and/or revise curriculum to support the integration of the liberatory consciousness development model within national member-facing programming
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to member-facing staff to strengthen their practice in facilitating and engaging members from a DEI lens 

Special Projects (5%)

  • Other projects, as assigned by Senior Director, Learning, Development, & Inclusion
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 years relevant professional experience required, including at least two years working directly on topics related to civic leadership development
  • Experience developing curriculum and designing experiential trainings for adult learners
  • Experience in virtual and online learning for adult learners
  • Strong training and facilitation skills, including a thorough understanding of adult learning principles and effective training methodologies, especially from a diversity, equity and inclusion lens
  • Proven ability to build and leverage relationships with diverse audiences and partners
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation of plans in fast-moving, changeable environments
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated success in managing and operating data systems
  • Demonstrated track record of effective communication across a complex organizational structure
  • Ability to identify useful metrics and see trends that inform strategy
  • Flexible and committed to continuous learning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in politics, policy, advocacy or organizing
  • Experience in digital organizing and strategies
  • Advanced degree in a relative field
