Job Description:
The Volunteer Manager will work in cooperation with the Community Organizing Team to facilitate expansion and deployment of the NewFM volunteer base throughout the 2020 election cycle. The Volunteer Manager will execute strategies to attract, recruit, train, manage and empower NewFM volunteers to educate and mobilize voters through a variety of direct voter contact methods. The ideal candidate understands electoral campaigns and field operations including (at least) a basic familiarity with distributed, digital, and relational organizing.
Key Responsibilities:
● Implement strategies and build volunteer infrastructure to conduct direct voter contact in targeted counties across Florida.
● Recruit, train, manage, elevate, and empower volunteers to become leaders within organized community teams.
● Coordinate with organizing staff to:
o increase community event attendance,
o facilitate furthering participants' political education and training, and
o convert attendees and supporters into active volunteers.
● Monitor and document progress-to-goals related to volunteer participation in phone banking, text banking, door-to-door, and crowd canvassing, and via relational organizing methods.
● Monitor and document progress toward voter contact objectives.
● Ensure that volunteer teams are working in accordance with the campaign's strategy and field plans.
● Utilize VAN and MiniVAN to administer and assign turfs and virtual phone banking/predictive dialer efforts.
● Utilize peer-to-peer texting platforms to administer list assignments, clean up responses, and such.
● Utilize relational organizing technologies to further grassroots voter engagement efforts via volunteer efforts.
● Create and complete volunteer training protocol.
● Facilitate volunteer meetings including setting an agenda, leading the team through the meeting, and ensuring follow-up.
Qualifications and Experience:
● Two or more cycles of field volunteer coordinating experience in campaigns with an understanding of Distributed and Digital Organizing.
● Computer skills: Intermediate experience with Voter Activation Network, word processing, spreadsheet, and multimedia presentation software.
● Demonstrated ability to execute campaign objectives, work effectively with community and faith leaders and carry out assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
● Success leading and managing diverse volunteer teams and working with ethnically and culturally diverse populations and will have intellectual drive, a progressive outlook to effectively conduct campaigns.
● Strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and organizational skills.
● Strong communication, interpersonal, motivational skills, work ethic, and desire for political change are essential.
● Background and commitment to social justice work and demonstrate a strong personal commitment to NewFM's mission and values.
● Must be English/Spanish bilingual, other languages desirable.
● Prior knowledge and experience working in Florida and selected regions is a plus.
