The Community Justice Action Fund (CJAF), a project of Tides Advocacy, is a nonprofit organization building power for and with communities of color to end gun violence. We were formed by activists and survivors of gun violence to help support and empower communities directly impacted by violence. CJAF focuses full-time on building power and infrastructure to end gun violence in communities of color. We do this by creating organizing and communications strategies that engage and empower communities that are most impacted by gun violence. For more information go to www.cjactionfund.org

Position Summary: The CJAF Fall Organizing Fellow will join the advocacy team to support all aspects of creating, recruiting, and running national online distributed campaigns that will help people of color take action in the fight to end gun violence. Reporting to the Distributed Organizing Manager, the Fall Organizing Fellow will partner across the team to develop opportunities for engagement that range from sharing good information with voters over text to ensure they have what they need to take action and invest in violence prevention, to trainings for hosting your own virtual house party to lead your friends and family in a discussion in how they have been impacted by gun violence. This person will play a key role in helping CJAF organize people of color all over the country with timely and trustworthy information and calls-to-action, and they will be a key creative partner in developing compelling ideas for digital campaigns and advocacy opportunities.

The CJAF Fall Organizing Fellow will develop and execute campaigns to mobilize CJAF's supporters via email, web portal, social media, and other digital platforms. Working closely with the advocacy team, this person will create campaign strategies and tactics to increase the number of people taking action with CJAF, expand engagement with key audiences, and support the organization in achieving goals and outcomes through targeted digital advocacy efforts.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a confident communicator, innovative relationship builder, creative thinker, and someone with a deep belief in the power of digital organizing to bring people of color from all walks of life to build community and to take tangible meaningful action. This role will have a somewhat flexible schedule, including an expectation for some evening and weekend work.

Essential Responsibilities and Activities:

Digital Campaigns

• Partner with the Distributed Organizing Manager and Advocacy Director to identify and evaluate good opportunities for high- impact advocacy campaigns.

  • Write and edit compelling campaign content including petitions, call scripts, text scripts, and the like to engage supporters to take action and help them communicate with friends, family, and other voters on behalf of the Advocacy Director.

  • Liaise with key staff across the organization to establish campaign goals, develop campaign concepts, and review content.

  • Work with vendors, consultants and contractors to implement online campaigns.

  • Set up and/or manage digital campaigns using

    • Voter File

    • Mobilize

    • ThruText

    • Zoom

  • Coordinate with the team to support promotion of distributed organizing opportunities across all channels as needed:

    • Email

    • SMS

    • Facebook Messenger

    • Social media

    • Partners

Data, Digital, Reporting

  • Work with the data vendor to ensure data is flowing properly, with particular attention paid to syncing with Every Action and the voter file where applicable.

  • Build reporting to make metric-driven improvements to programming

  • Write and edit compelling campaign content including petitions, call scripts, text scripts, and the like to engage supporters to take action and help them communicate with friends, family, and other voters on behalf of CJAF.

Recruitment

Follow up, reply, and maintain CJAF member information email inbox or other queries
Review performance of member activation and campaigns and lift up findings 
The CJAF Fall Organizing Fellow will report to the Distributed Organizing Manager and will work collaboratively with staff, contractors, vendors, and other partners on a weekly basis.

Salary:45-50k
