[GAINPOWER.org: Jobs That Are Left] MN - Regional Voter Protection Director

Minnesota must ensure that elections are free, fair, and equitable. To support Democrats up and down the ballot, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party is hiring for the 2020 cycle a full-time Regional Voter Protection Director (RVPD). The RVPD will serve as regional representatives in spotting and resolving voter protection issues, recruit and train poll challengers, recruit election judges, and help voters more easily access the ballot. This position will report to either a DFL Deputy Voter Protection Director or the Voter Protection Director (VPD). This position is slated to begin immediately and end on November 14.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting and training poll challengers, election judges, and  training and managing other volunteers to help spot and resolve voters' questions and issues during the early-vote period and at polling locations on Election Day;
  • Building and delivering training programs to volunteers;
  • Maintaining a current knowledge of voting laws and related issues, as well as a current knowledge of Coordinated Campaign activities and goals;
  • Helping to educate voters on their voting rights and options; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Excellent research, written, and oral communication skills, and comfort with public presentations;
  • Excellent project management, time management, and organizational skills, including managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy;
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders;
  • Experience with or willingness to learn to manage large groups;
  • Prior political organizing or campaign experience, particularly experience in voter protection or field operations;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite products;
  • A strong commitment to advancing the DFL agenda, strengthening the DFL Party, and winning elections for DFL candidates. 

Preferred but not required:

  • Proficiency in Votebuilder (VAN) and LBJ;
  • Minnesota experience or ties to the state;
  • Previous voter protection, poll observer, poll worker, or hotline volunteer experience

 

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience, between $4,000 and $4,500 per month. Employees of the DFL are paid on a bi-weekly basis and receive a competitive benefits package, including health care and dental.
