JOB DESCRIPTION: DISTRICT FIELD DIRECTOR
Democrats in the Michigan House of Representatives currently hold 52 of 110 seats, and are just four seats away from flipping the house in 2020 for the first time in nearly a decade to give Governor Whitmer real partners in Lansing.
The Michigan House Democratic Fund is seeking District Field Directors to manage and oversee field operations in key districts during the crucial final months of the campaign.
Overview
The Field Director will be responsible for overseeing field operations for the district. They will be tasked with daily phone canvassing, volunteer recruitment and management, creating call lists from the VAN, and tracking progress along the voter contact plan.
Responsibilities
Recruit volunteers, through recruitment calls and activist group outreach.
Phone bank voters to build support for the candidate or member.
Virtually meet 1:1 with volunteers to develop leadership.
Track field numbers and complete field reports.
Represent the campaign at virtual events.
Support other visibility tactics.
Be ready to support the Campaign Manager on other tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Passion for Democratic values and electing a Democratic State House majority.
A willingness to give maximum effort no matter how big or small the task.
Ability to self-motivate and self-direct to guide projects to completion.
Michigan resident preferred. Willingness to spend significant time in-district if public health conditions allow for in-person events.
The ideal candidate is passionate about organizing by embracing all people.
An ongoing interest in continued learning and adaptation based on best practices.
Exceptionally well-organized, with an ability to meet strict deadlines.
Ability to speak confidently (one-on-one and in groups) and write clearly.
Candidates with experience building coalitions among diverse groups of people and experience in holding volunteers or staff accountable are preferred.
Experience using Votebuilder (VAN) strongly preferred.
Compensation and Details
This position runs August – November 3. Most openings are for a full time position, at $3,000/month, though part time applicants may be considered. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate.
