Regional Voter Protection Coordinator
The Iowa Democratic Party seeks a Regional Voter Protection Coordinator to support the Voter Protection Team's work by building a strong team of volunteer attorneys and advocates to defend every Iowan's right to vote, as well as a robust volunteer team to answer ballot access questions. Supporting the efficient operation of polling places on and before Election Day, so voting is easy, fast, and secure
Our right to vote is fundamental—and when the electorate is expanded, Democrats win. The Regional Voter Protection Coordinator role is crucial to ensure every eligible Iowan is able to cast their ballot in November. This position reports to a Deputy Voter Protection Director.
Requirements include:
Volunteer Recruitment and Operations
Be the primary point of contact for the region when it comes to volunteer training, assignment, and troubleshooting for poll observers.
Reach out over the phone, via email & text to recruit poll observers and other volunteers for key voter protection work in the region.
Identify and build relationships with county voter protection leaders to ensure poll observers are assigned to priority precincts.
Help create and facilitate a clear path of communication from poll observers to the voter protection team.
Assist VoPro staff with execution of volunteer programs for rejected absentee ballot curing, provisional ballot chase, and recount procedures.
For this work, fluency in VAN is highly preferred.
Election Administrator Preparedness:
Directly work with volunteers to collect information from local election administrators about their plans and preparedness for Election Day and after election day to identify potential areas of concern and address them.
Stakeholder Relationship Management:
Support VoPro team relationships with community organizations and other allies, including student groups, county and municipal Democratic groups, and other organizations to recruit volunteers and educate voters.
Qualifications:
We're seeking a detail-oriented doer who can handle a high volume of work with a problem-solving spirit.
Highly organized, data-driven leader
has at least one cycle of organizing experience and with a proven track record of juggling competing priorities in a changing environment
experience in managing volunteers, planning and executing events, and moving projects forward.
They are comfortable using data to inform decision-making strategy, appreciate the importance of reporting clean and accurate data, and possess a strong attention to detail.
Strong cross-team collaborator
Communicates with stakeholders early and often, closes the loop quickly on outstanding issues, and manages up and across to their colleagues, manager, and other team leaders
Strong situational communicator, skilled at building bridges across lines of difference.
Carefully adapts their written and verbal communications to meet the needs and preferences of a diverse group of stakeholders. They carefully craft tailored messages to each of the audiences they mobilize to action.
Committed to Democratic values
Political organizing experience, legal experience, and relationships in Iowa are preferred but not required.
