ABOUT LEADERS IGNITING TRANSFORMATION:

Formed as an independent nonprofit in Fall of 2017, Leaders Igniting Transformation (LIT) is a youth of color led organization. LIT engages in values-based issues and electoral organizing, direct action, advocacy for public policy, and leadership development. On campuses and communities in Milwaukee's key geographies, we organize young people to build independent political power for social, racial and economic justice.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Leaders Igniting Transformation is seeking a dynamic, inspiring Communications Director to support our Communications and Culture Department. As the Communications Director, a senior leadership position is responsible for the strategic and tactical management of the organization. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Organizational Communications

  • Establish comprehensive communications strategy for new and ongoing campaigns and ensure consistency of messaging across all communications, all while in line with our mission, vision, values, and culture

  • Guide digital marketing strategies for the organization, including working with various LIT Departments to send ongoing updates to our email lists, manage social media, and update communications on our website (www.litwi.org

 

Press

  • Creatively develop and rapidly adapt an ongoing earned media presence and strategy

  • Provide the support to staff in crafting op-eds, statements, and social media content in addition to promoting talking points and background information to prepare staff for media

  • Build and maintain key press (reporter, booker, outlet) relationships at the local, state, and national levels for the organization

 

Administration & Management

  • Collaboratively work with the Executive Director to support departmental fundraising goals 

  • Manage the Communications and Culture Department, providing supervision, feedback, and troubleshooting challenges, to ensure their team has access to the necessary support and resources 

  • Responsible for the development, maintenance, and security of the department budgets in addition to the development and implementation of organizational goals and departmental work plans

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Resident of Wisconsin (or willing to relocate to Wisconsin)

  • 1-2 years as a Senior Manager or Director level position (or equivalent)

  • Fluent in English and Spanish (written and verbal communication)

  • 2+ years experience in fundraising and donor relationship management

  • Firm understanding of non-profit management and compliance, including the difference of 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 work

  • Pro-Oxford comma.

 

ENCOURAGED EXPERIENCE 

  • Successful record pitching press, including specific experience working with and pitching narratives that focus on communities of color and experience working with and pitching to state or local press 

  • Experience organizing colleagues, organizations, and/or movements while centering racial justice and/or racial equity.

  • Background in training newcomers to communications & press, developing and executing a strategic communications plan, and supporting strategic issue campaigns

  • Excellent solution-oriented skills with an ability to respond quickly to changing priorities.


LOGISTICS 

Locations: Milwaukee, WI preferred. Wisconsin required

Department: Communications and Culture

Reporting to: Managing Director


Compensation 

  • Starting salary $82,000 + $250 per month wifi & wellness allowance  + $100 per month cell phone allowance. Salary open to negotiation.
