Basecamp Strategy is a fast-growing digital fundraising firm making a big impact in politics. We're digital storytellers who win tough races and elect incredible people by raising our clients as much money as possible online. Our core values as a company are doing good, enjoying the experience, and growing our strength as an organization so that our employees can live meaningful lives.
If you enjoy a fast-paced environment, doing tremendously good work efficiently, thinking outside the box, and figuring out how to go from great to incredibly great, you'll love it here.
We are currently hiring for a variety of roles under our Digital Fundraising Fellowship. This program is designed to introduce you to the core elements of Digital Fundraising while preparing you for a job you'll love in Democratic politics, whether it's on a campaign, with another consulting firm, or on our own growing team.
To date, over 50% of Fellows have joined our team full-time after completing the Fellowship, while another 25% joined 2020 campaigns or worked with us part-time as freelancers while finishing their undergraduate degrees.
Applicants who are available starting December 4th, 2020 are strongly encouraged to apply. Please indicate in your application when you would be available to start, and how long you are available. The Fellowship lasts 3 months and includes a $1,500/month stipend.
Even with Election Day behind us, Fellows should expect an intensive, fast-paced environment — and an incredibly rewarding experience.
Who you are:
You're brave and open to risk-taking: You're new to politics — or you're done with politics-as-usual and are ready to join an innovative team that isn't afraid to ruffle feathers in the process of changing our politics, and our world, for the better.
You take your work seriously and believe you can have a meaningful impact on our country.
You're disaffected with the current balance of political power and want to redistribute it by empowering new voices.
You're excited to grow along with the company, to learn new skills quickly, and to move on to the next once you've mastered those.
Who we are:
We believe that people with good ideas CAN change the world when empowered with the right tools and expertise.
We motivate donors with honesty and authenticity, and we don't follow the traditional playbook. We're a team of specialists that's here to challenge assumptions and figure out what performs the best today, not what worked in 2014, 2016, 2018, or even 2020.
We are growing and evolving quickly as individuals and as a company. No one is doing the same job they were doing six months ago, three months, or even a month ago.
We want to bring new perspectives onto our team because we know that when more voices are at the table, bigger, better, and bolder things happen. In both hiring employees and recruiting clients, we approach every decision with a commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion both within our team and within the Democratic party at large. We recruit, employ, train, compensate, and promote regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, or higher-education status. Our Fellows and full-time employees are paid according to transparent salary tiers.
The open seats in our Digital Fundraising Fellowship:
Client Services Fellowship
Our Client Services Fellows collaborate across departments to help ensure our clients exceed their daily, weekly, and monthly fundraising goals. If you're looking to work on a campaign, the Hill, or run for office yourself one day, the Client Services Fellowship is a great introduction to the world of campaign politics. Applicants must have a high degree of professionalism and the ability/desire to communicate with high-level officials.
As a Client Services Fellow, you'll track updates to client calendars daily, listen to client strategy calls and take notes, and help our Client Managers meet the needs of their client portfolios. You'll also learn how to pull and analyze fundraising results, and you'll help create client presentations on a monthly basis.
Digital Fellowship
Our Digital Fellows focus on helping our Data and Production Team by learning the ins and outs of database management and email production. You'll learn to produce and code emails (we'll teach you basic HTML if you don't know it!) and help prepare our digital content to be deployed flawlessly across platforms. You'll analyze results data to figure out what worked and what didn't and play an essential role in our work to create digital fundraising content that drives results. Applicants with experience in coding/HTML are highly encouraged to apply, but this skill is not required!
Content Fellowship
Our Content Fellows work alongside our Director of Content Strategy and our Content Team to write compelling emails that exceed fundraising goals for our clients.
Applicants need to be strong writers who can take direction, learn fast, and meet deadlines. You'll need a meticulous work ethic, an excitement for incorporating breaking news into content, and enthusiasm for taking direction.
The core elements of Digital Fundraising are very specific, and you'll need to quickly learn a style of writing that you've never written in before. To succeed, your words need to pack a strong emotional punch, without relying on WRITING IN ALL CAPS or aggressive punctuation to make your point. The most emotional content often has no exclamation points at all. And you'll need to quickly be able to create content at a quick clip -- think newsroom 20 minutes before a deadline, not novel writing.
This Fellowship is a great opportunity to improve your writing skills and gain direct Digital Fundraising experience, all while supporting candidates you believe in and diverse political organizations making a difference in our country.
Final details:
The Fellowship will be run remotely, but our team remains a close-knit community. Fellows will receive a $1,500/month stipend, as well as the home office technology necessary to be successful. Additional benefits include: WOO! Fridays ("Work On Ourselves! Fridays" are devoted to professional development and, for Fellows in particular, the exploration of other departments); frequent virtual hangouts with food/drinks reimbursed; and participation in Basecamp Giving, our quarterly company-wide designated charitable giving.
We're looking for candidates who can start on December 4th. Our office is closed Dec 20 through Jan 3 for the Winter Holidays, and Fellows will not be required to work during that time.
Application process:
Applicants should apply to just one of the open Fellowship opportunities.
If you're ready to dive right in and help us exceed our clients' fundraising goals through December and into the new year, please send an email with a one-page resume and a statement of 100 words or fewer on what previous experience has prepared you for the Fellowship role to jobs@basecampstrategy.com. Applicants to the Content Fellowship should also include 2-3 writing samples.
Please use the subject line "[Firstname Lastname] - Basecamp Strategy [CONTENT or CLIENT SERVICES or DIGITAL] Fellowship".
Please indicate in your application where you heard about this position and when you would be available to start.
