[GAINPOWER.org: Jobs That Are Left] Major Gifts Manager for Human Rights (Phila /Semi Remote)

The Challenge & Opportunity

Founded months before the Constitution was written, the Pennsylvania Prison Society is the nation's oldest human rights organization. Our mission is to ensure that people incarcerated in Pennsylvania are treated humanely, can stay connected to their families, and are supported in living productive lives when they come home.

While our roots are historic, our mission is more relevant today than ever. With renewed focus on social and racial justice, this past year we welcomed 800 first-time donors and increased individual giving.

We are seeking a Part-Time Major Gifts & Development Manager to work with our team and bring the Prison Society to a new level of engagement and donor cultivation.  We seek to grow, inspire, and deepen our supporter and donor communities.

About our Team

We are a small but mighty staff of seven, buoyed by more than 300 volunteers statewide who respond to concerns of incarcerated people and advocate on their behalf.  The Major Gifts & Development Manager will work closely with Executive Director Claire Shubik-Richards and senior staff as well as the Board Development Committee and the Society's communications and strategic consulting partners, Vim Collaborative

Our dynamic, committed team is looking for a leader to help us bring our aspirations for increased giving into reality. To give you more information on who you will be working with and how we work together, we've created a document with some  background about us HERE.

Your Charge (What You'll Be Doing):

1) Design and manage the execution of a major gift strategy. Research and identify new high-net-worth donors. Develop a stewardship strategy to increase donor engagement. Create and manage a strategic donor cultivation plan for the Executive Director, Board, and senior staff.  Partner with the Society's leadership team in stewarding major donors.

2) Manage, maintain, and improve donor management. You are the master of ensuring the accuracy and consistency of all donor data. You create and update standard operating procedures for data entry, data collection, reconciliation and reporting.  Supervise and oversee any administrative staff in development data entry to ensure accuracy. Conduct quality assurance of all data, data entry, reports and acknowledgements.

3) Collaborate and contribute to overall organizational strategy and communications. Participate in organizational strategic decisions. Collaborate with communication consultants and staff in designing development focused appeals, collateral, social media and events. Design and implement a new membership strategy.  Contribute to foundation research and grant application strategy, while application writing and foundation outreach is managed by Society leadership.

YOU are our ideal candidate if:

  • You have 5 or more years of development experience with a proven record of closing large commitments.

  • You are experienced and confident with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms. You know how to track and document relationships. Running CRM reports and learning from the data fascinates you.

  • Organization, planning and follow-through are your strong-suits. You know how to focus on key priorities and not get distracted. Your career history is full of examples of how you have organized, planned, and executed development projects and strategies.

  • You are comfortable managing up and managing horizontally. In this position you will be giving direction to multiple people who do not report to you and, in the case of the Executive Director, someone to whom you report.

  • You are goal driven. Having targets motivates you. You are fired up to exceed minimal engagement expectations.

  • You are committed to mission. You don't want to work just anywhere. You don't want to raise funds for just any cause.  The Society's humanitarian mission deeply motivates you.

  • You are the consummate team player.  You're known for getting along with everyone in a small office regardless of their personality or stature and leverage their expertise to advance your work.
