Senior Engineer
Warchest is a dynamic software start-up serving political campaigns that was founded by senior campaign operatives. Warchest has already become the industry standard in campaign budget management having supported nearly one billion dollars in campaign finances in the 2020 election cycle. We are looking to hire a senior engineer as one of our first ten employees to help us continue to grow. You will have a lot of responsibility and autonomy in playing a pivotal role for a company poised to help many campaigns win. The right candidate will have the technical and non-technical experience listed below, as well as a strong interest in politics and progressive social issues.
Responsibilities
As a senior engineer and an early employee, you will have significant input in not only the application, but also growing the company itself. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Managing the day-to-day maintenance of the application;
Working with the team to devise application upgrades and new features;
Implementing application upgrades; and
Helping to build out and manage the engineering team.
Technical Experience
You should have at least five years of experience as a web developer. You should also have experience deploying non-trivial single page applications and REST APIs to cloud services while managing their scale. Specifically, you should have experience with or be comfortable quickly learning:
Building single page applications with React;
Building REST APIs with Node.js;
Building databases with MongoDB on cloud providers such as MongoDB Atlas;
Modern JavaScript including ES6 features;
Advanced JavaScript topics, including scope, closures, inheritance, and asynchrony;
Building tools such as webpack;
Deploying applications on AWS using Elastic Beanstalk;
JSON Web Tokens;
Writing effective unit and integration tests; and
Expert application security measures, including implementing measures to counter common attacks such as XSS and CSRF.
Non-Technical Skills and Experience
You should also have experience and/or skills in:
Managing teams;
Written and verbal communication skills;
Working well under pressure;
Being flexible and adaptable to a growing company;
Working independently and following current systems and protocols;
Project management;
Collaborating with team members on projects, proposals, and presentations; and
A demonstrable interest in supporting progressive social and political issues.
Benefits
$100,000 yearly salary with significant equity opportunities and other competitive benefits.
Location
Washington, D.C. or Sacramento, C.A. Remote work will be considered for exceptional candidates.
