Job: Senior Communications Strategist:
The Democratic Governors Association (DGA), the campaign committee responsible for electing and supporting Democratic Governors, is seeking a Senior Communications Strategist for the 2021-2022 cycle. This position will be overseen by the Communications Director and work collaboratively with other members of the Communications Department to create and execute plans to broaden Americans' awareness and understanding of Democratic governors and the DGA, work with gubernatorial staff, and offer strategic and tactical guidance to the communications team and campaigns. This position will be integral to coordinating broad messaging strategy and tactical execution across departments within the DGA, and between the DGA and relevant local and national organizations.

The expected salary range for this position is $100,000 – $135,000 annually before benefits and applicable withholdings, but salary is commensurate with experience.
Primary Responsibilities
- Promote governors' and the DGA to national media to increase awareness of governors' successes, including but not limited to pitching stories to national reporters, booking Governors and spokespeople across a wide variety of platforms, and identifying creative ways to insert Governors into the national political narrative;
- Promote DGA's national brand to advance the central mission of helping elect Democrats to governors' offices;
- Advise Democratic gubernatorial campaigns on messaging, strategy, and tactics;
- Cultivate and develop relationships with key local and national reporters;
- Oversee cross-departmental coordination on key projects related to the 2021-2022 cycle;
- Draft and edit multiple forms of content, such as press releases, memos, briefings, scripts, etc.;
- Brainstorm new ways for campaigns, administrations, and the DGA to breakthrough in the current media environment;
- Lead rapid response to key moments on assigned campaigns;
- Travel may be required to achieve goals and perform regular responsibilities;
- Manage other special projects, assignments, and tasks as assigned by the Communications Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 8 years or 4 election cycles of work experience in media relations and previous experience working in an official office (gubernatorial offices preferred);
- A demonstrated record of success at pitching national media, cultivating reporter relations, and staffing principals;
- On-the-record experience;
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize a varied workload, with the flexibility to adapt to a changing media environment in order to take advantage of new opportunities;
- Experience collaborating and coordinating with the offices of multiple elected officials;
- A track record of initiating and executing creative ideas across multiple mediums;
- Strong ability to write and edit on deadline;
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to Democratic candidates and causes;
- Must be comfortable with long, irregular hours during peak seasons.
