[GAINPOWER.org: Jobs That Are Left] The Collective PAC seeks a Press Secretary (Remote/ Washington DC)

The Collective is currently accepting applications for the position of Press Secretary

The Collective is a consortium of national organizations (The Collective PAC, The Collective Super PAC, Collective Future & The Collective Education Fund) on a mission to build Black political power. The Communications team is responsible for developing the strategy and managing the implementation of the organization's communication program including growth of media contacts and presence.

The Press Secretary works with the Communications Director to build a long-term communications strategy, elevate The Collective PAC's work and endorsed candidates in national and local press, and serve as an on-the-record spokesperson for the organization. Duties include supporting the Communications Director with a range of tasks, including drafting press materials, briefing and staffing senior leadership for interviews, providing communications assistance to candidates as needed, and monitoring political and racial justice news. The Press Secretary reports directly to the Communications Director.

Responsibilities

  • Grow the national profile of The Collective PAC and its senior staff in the media, by disseminating the organization's mission of building Black political power, our achievements, and the accomplishments of our endorsed candidates.
  • Proactively craft and pitch timely, creative stories on behalf of The Collective PAC and our endorsed candidates.
  • Build relationships with the members of the press, while triaging and responding to incoming media inquiries.
  • Secure print, broadcast, podcast interviews for The Collective PAC's senior team in both national and local press.
  • Draft and deliver briefs and talking points for The Collective PAC's staff and candidates when needed, as well as other press materials including press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and letters to the editor.
  • Draft and implement communications rollout plans for The Collective PAC organizational priorities, initiatives, and high profile events.
  • Assist with media training and candidate prep as needed.
  • Serve as on-the-record spokesperson for the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years experience in communications -- campaign experience or experience working in a campaign-like environment is preferred.
  • Creative thinker with proven track record of pitching and placing stories in top-tier media outlets.
  • On-the-record experience and strong rolodex of established relationships with political reporters.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and write quickly and in a compelling manner about multiple topics.
  • Energetic ability to multi-task and manage projects in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Strong, determined team-player with ready sense of humor, thick skin, and a demonstrated willingness to work hard and take risks.
  • Commitment to diversity of our candidates, membership, partners, and staff.
  • Excellent multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote work environment.

APPLY HERE. This is a mid-level position at The Collective. The salary range for this position is $65,000-$78,000. Employees are eligible to enroll in The Collective's health insurance policy, which includes dental, vision, health, and life insurance.
