[GAINPOWER.org: Jobs That Are Left] FV@W Federal Policy Coordinator

Position Title: Federal Policy Coordinator
Reports To: Federal Policy Team
Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000

Overview

Family Values @ Work (FV@W) is looking for a passionate and experienced advocate to join our team as we work to pass federal paid family and medical leave, paid sick and safe days and universal childcare in the United States. Reporting to the Federal Policy Team, the federal policy coordinator will work to provide advocacy, lobbying, state network coordination and resource creation.

Family Values @ Work

FV@W is a national network connecting 27 state coalitions to each other and to the wider movement for economic justice with a focus on caregiving generally, and paid family and medical leave, paid sick and safe days and child care specifically. To build capacity for the state coalitions, we provide technical assistance with strategic planning, communications, and fundraising; connect states with experts; and provide multiple opportunities for peer learning and collaboration. We expedite the learning curve of new coalitions by helping them map the arc of their campaigns, implement best practices from the outset, anticipate likely opposition, and reach a wide range of allies in their own states.

FV@W coalitions' efforts have raised awareness and changed the public dialogue about earned sick and safe days (ESSD) and family and medical leave insurance (FMLI). Over the past 17 years, FV@W's member coalitions have been instrumental in helping to win more than 50 new earned sick days laws and 10 new paid family and medical leave programs, impacting more than 55 million workers and their families. We provide leadership to the national care economy movement through the Work Family Strategy Council and their signature campaign "Paid Leave for All" (PLFA) and the National Child Care Table which several staff members help to coordinate. FV@W aims to win federal paid leave, paid sick days, and child care policies and this requires greater advocacy support to build federal capacity across the network, and strengthen relationships with federal law makers.

The network is aligned around shared movement-building principles that contribute to a strong and integrated movement for economic, racial, and gender justice. We have built the capacity, power, and relationships to advance policies, change culture and win campaigns on new issues that emerge from the communities that ground our network. The ideal applicant will work in concert with these values.
