[GAINPOWER.org: Jobs That Are Left] Gupta Wessler PLLC, Associate in Civil Rights and Class Actions Practice, Washington, DC

Gupta Wessler PLLC is looking for an associate to work in the firm's Civil Rights and Class Actions Practice. Applicants should have at least two years of post-clerkship legal experience, including substantial experience in federal trial courts. We're interested in hearing from lawyers who are capable of taking on significant responsibility for cutting-edge, complex trial-court cases: lawyers with exceptional writing talent, a proven capacity to think creatively and strategically about the law, and a demonstrated passion for advocacy in the public interest. The associate will have substantial responsibility at all phases of the litigation, from investigating and developing cases to briefing and arguing significant motions, to written discovery and depositions.

Gupta Wessler's Civil Rights and Class Actions Practice primarily comprises trial-court litigation to combat discrimination and other abuses in employment, housing, financial services, public accommodations, and government programs, with an emphasis on stopping technology from undermining equal rights and consumer protection. The firm is currently litigating novel cases at the intersection of civil rights and technology—on behalf of workers, consumers, non-profits, and unions—against some of the world's largest technology companies (like Facebook and Amazon), and will continue to apply innovative legal theories to attack the misuse of technology to undermine civil rights. The firm regularly collaborates with other leading law firms and public interest organizations on civil rights and class action cases.

Gupta Wessler PLLC stands out as a progressive public interest law firm specializing in high-profile Supreme Court, appellate, constitutional, and trial-court actions. Our cases cover a very broad range of issues, including workers' and consumers' rights, civil rights, class actions, access to the courts, constitutional and administrative law, and gun control. In these and other areas, we work closely with leading non-profit organizations, scholars, policy experts, local governments, and other law firms to help shape the law in ways that enhance justice and improve people's lives. Recently, we protected nearly $1.5 billion in class-action relief for workers and consumers; won major victories against the Trump Administration over dark money and President Trump's conflicts of interest; helped raise the minimum wage for thousands of airport workers; and successfully preserved the constitutionality of common-sense gun laws.

This is a full-time, salaried position. Salary commensurate with experience, ranging from $95,000 to $115,000.

Gupta Wessler is an equal opportunity employer. We value a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture. Gupta Wessler encourages applications from all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, marital status, citizenship, disability, veteran status and record of arrest or conviction, or any other characteristic protected by law.Gupta Wessler will make every effort to ensure that its recruitment and employment provide all qualified persons, including persons with disabilities, with full opportunities for employment in all positions.

To apply: Please send a cover letter, resume, at least two writing samples, and three references to recruiting@guptawessler.com. The writing samples should be prior work assignments or articles on any topic. Please submit your materials by January 29, 2021.
