Job Description:
Lead and execute the campaign's press and external communication program
Build and implement weekly and long-term strategic communications plans that are dynamic and impactful
Develop and maintain relationships with local reporters
Establish a strong professional and empowering team culture within the larger organization focused on accountability, collaboration with all campaign departments, and in service to one's community
Serve as a core member of the campaign's senior staff
Report directly to the Campaign Manager
Responsibilities Include:
Manage input from multiple team members
Pitch and place stories with local, regional, and national news outlets and new-media platforms
Brief and prepare the Congresswoman for interviews
Write press releases, questionnaires, talking points, and speeches
Set goals and objectives and hold oneself accountable
Work closely with the Campaign Manager, Digital Director, and strategic advisors to develop communication and messaging priorities for the campaign
Maintain a strong working relationship with the Congresswoman, campaign staff, legislative team, media, and constituents
Work quickly and accurately under pressure
Applicants must have:
Previous political campaign experience or Hill experience
Experience speaking on-the-record
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meeting frequent deadlines
Willingness to work extensive hours, including nights and weekends
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills as well as strong communication and organizational skills, showing attention to detail
Understanding of print, broadcast, online media
Enthusiasm for working in an organization with a culture of respect, empowerment, and inclusion
Strong commitment to progressive values
Applicants will be considered more competitive if they have
A valid driver's license and access to a licensed and insured vehicle
Proficiency in Google docs and Microsoft Office
Background or experience working with Frontline or Red to Blue candidates or members
Ties to the IL-14 community and larger Illinois press corps
This job is based in IL-14. Successful applicants will be expected to relocate when it is safe to do so.
Salary range: 6,000/month,
