POSITION SUMMARY
The Data Strategist will oversee data systems and inform data management strategy to fulfill the mission and goals of Power California and its sibling 501(c)(4) entity, PowerCA Action. Reporting to the Field Director, the Data Strategist will track, analyze, and synthesize demographic and voter trends to inform the organizing, digital engagement, membership, and electoral strategies of our campaigns. This role also provides information to internal departments and Power California Alliance partner organizations supporter-engagement data throughout campaigns, by understanding the data trends impacting target communities. This position will also be responsible for maintaining all data systems, maps, and reporting functions, and will translate data for multiple audiences. The Data Strategist collaborates across departments but especially with the narrative and influence department and with PowerCA Action and its political action committee, Youth Power PAC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works proactively to develop and implement data driven strategies to strengthen youth voter turnout and increase membership support and engagement cross-collaboratively, with a team that includes the directors of our narrative and influence, IT, and development departments
- Conducts training on data structures, best practices, data collection methods, and analytics
- Manages specialty data technology contracts and vendor relationships
- Mentors and advises ongoing data-related training internally and for Power California Alliance partner organizations' staff
- Develops and implements processes using the PDI Campaign Center platform and visualization and mapping software
- Produces and maintains reports and data analyses to track, support, and coordinate partner and coalition work
- Proactively provides analysis and information that effectively supports decision making
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3 years' experience managing data systems and voter data for political campaigns
- Passion for and experience in working with young people of color, low-income immigrants, and refugees, especially from an intersectional perspective, including LGBTQIA+ communities
- A track record of supporting racial equity outcomes and ability to work effectively with communities of color in political settings
- Experience cleaning and manipulating different data sets, particularly census and voter data
- Ability to design and implement processes in PDI Campaign Center and other civic engagement tools; experience with the Civis Platform is a plus
- Experience creating data visualizations (including maps) with spreadsheets, Tableau, or other tools
- Experience with G-Suite Administration preferred
- Familiarity with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) structures, PACs, and voter contact platform databases preferred
- Strong time management, organizational, and work planning skills; ability to adjust work activity as needed and manage multiple projects; works well independently
- Exceptional level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent cross-cultural skills, including the ability to communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
- Flexible, team-oriented approach to problem-solving
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment; independent, proactive and able to work under the pressure of tight deadlines and changing priorities; comfortable with on-the-ground learning
- Commitment to embodying the change we seek; able to act with integrity, compassion, and openness to feedback
- Bilingual or multilingual with English-Spanish skills a plus
- Some nights and weekends required; during campaign season, it's frequent
- Must have a working cell phone with a data plan and a working home Internet connection with adequate speed
- Ability to travel frequently, within California and nationally, for periods of 1 to 3 days at a time, up to 6 times per year
- Must have unlimited access to a reliable automobile and have the ability to drive; valid California driver's license and, if driving own car, proof of adequate insurance coverage required
- Based in or near Los Angeles preferably; will consider Fresno or Oakland, California (within 25 miles); some telework privileges may be granted
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range of $65,000–$75,000
