Email Associate, Educators 4 Excellence (New York, NY)

Are you interested in email campaigns, digital advocacy, and education? Educators 4 Excellence is hiring for an Email Associate to help build and grow our email newsletters and calls to action to over 14,000 teachers. Here's more info:

The Organization
For far too long, education policy has been created without a critical voice at the table: the voice of classroom teachers. Educators 4 Excellence (E4E), a teacher-led organization, is changing this dynamic by placing the voices of teachers at the forefront of the conversations that shape our classrooms and careers.

E4E has quickly grown into a national network of over 14,000 progressive teachers, united by the E4E Declaration of Teachers' Principles and Beliefs. The work of E4E and E4E teachers has resulted in modifications to legislation on issues such as teacher evaluation and increased student funding, the publication of nationally significant teacher-created policy papers, and national and local media attention highlighting progressive teacher voices.

Position
Reporting to the Digital Manager, the Email Associate will play a crucial role in helping a list of over 14,000 E4E members across the country learn, network, and take action more easily. The ideal candidate learns quickly when it comes to web-based platforms for email, databases, and online content management systems; has solid writing and messaging skills and meticulous attention to detail; and knows how to leverage internal relationships to achieve results.

He or she will design and manage each week's "E4E Weekly Update" newsletters, one of the primary ways E4E teachers learn about what's happening in education policy, and run email call-to-action campaigns, which support organizing and advocacy efforts.

As part of E4E's new Digital team, the Email Associate will work closely with the Digital Manager and local chapter staff to build coordinated digital campaigns for E4E chapters, and with the Data team to analyze trends and find new ways to engage E4E members online.

Specific responsibilities include:
•    Manage the E4E Weekly Update, our national newsletter for E4E members.
•    Manage mass emails for national and local campaigns.
•    Maintain and segment E4E's email lists and reports.
•    Provide strategic support to improve E4E's email tactics.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
•    A bachelor's degree required, and at least 1-2 years of experience in a digital, communications or related role that involves either some writing and messaging or experience with sending and managing mass emails.
•    At least one year of professional experience as a Pre K-12 classroom teacher preferred; some form of teaching, school-based professional experience, student-based professional experience or previous work with educational non-profits required.
•    Prior experience with HTML, Salesforce and/or ExactTarget preferred; basic familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a plus.
•    Prior organizing, advocacy or campaign experience, as well as graphic/web design or user experience design skills, preferred.

Moreover, all E4E candidates will have a/an:
•    Empathy for, understanding of, and respect for the teaching profession.
•    Deep commitment to the values of E4E and passion for students, improving education, and closing the achievement gap.
•    Political savvy and keen interest in/understanding of education policy, the education reform movement broadly, and the power and politics of the education landscape both locally and nationally.
•    Tenacity, grit and the ability to take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced, unstructured start-up environment.
•    Demonstrated record as both a team player and a self-starter, including exceptional organization and time management skills; a demonstrated ability to design a work plan, prioritize and meet goals; grace under pressure and a good sense of humor; and an innovative spirit.
•    Ability and eagerness to go above and beyond and do whatever it takes to get the job done and meet/exceed goals, including working weekday evenings and some weekends.
