[jobsthatareLEFT] Paid Fellowship with Progressive Start-Up in DC

POSITION:


The NewDEAL is looking for a Fellow to help us grow our community of rising state and local elected leaders around the country committed to building progressive economic growth.  Responsibilities include everything from policy research, press releases, social media, website updates, and event coordination.  Must have strong written and oral communications skills and be comfortable working independently, with preference given to those living in the Washington, DC, area.  This is a great opportunity to dive into the fast-paced, exciting environment of a growing political start-up organization, to work on a diverse range of projects, and work closely with rising leaders from around the country.  Full time fellows will receive a $1000 monthly stipend. The NewDEAL is seeking a full-time Fellow available from September-December 2015, with the possibility to continue through the winter.

The NewDEAL is a national network of rising state and local elected leaders who are pro-growth progressives.  Our mission is to bring together leaders focused on expanding opportunity for everyone and to help them develop and spread innovative ideas to make government smarter so we can prioritize investments in our long-term economic growth.  We do this by providing a national community that connects the NewDEAL Leaders with ideas, trainings, and relationships with top political, policy, and private sector leaders.


The network is led by our Honorary Chairs, Delaware Governor Jack Markell and U.S. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, as well as our Honorary Regional Chairs: Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, U.S. Senator Cory Booker, U.S. Senator Chris Coons, U.S. Senator Gary Peters, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, and Houston Mayor Annise Parker.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist on event coordination for NewDEAL Leader conferences, meet & greets, webinars, and other events

  • Track social media and news updates from our 140+ leaders to help promote their innovative work across the country

  • Draft briefing memos, event invitations, and other outreach materials

  • Help maintain database and track leader engagement with the network

  • Research pro-growth progressive policy initiatives and track other rising leaders across the country


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and to work as part of a team

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize strategically, and take initiative

  • Experience with MailChimp and/or NationBuilder preferred, but not required. Web design experience a plus.

  • Interest in state and local government
