About Grassroots Campaigns:
Grassroots Campaigns is a consulting firm that runs face-to-face engagement campaigns on behalf of progressive nonprofit, political, and humanitarian organizations such as the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Oxfam, the Sierra Club, and the national Democratic Party. We run voter registration drives, voter mobilization campaigns, and grassroots lobbying efforts.
About the Job: In recent years Nevada has become a bellwether state for the Southwest, and Nevada's Democratic Presidential caucus is viewed as an important marker of enthusiasm for any candidate in this critical region of the country. We'll be working to talk to voters one-on-one (including many Spanish-speaking voters) about the importance of turning out for this nationally important caucus.
Over the course of the year, organizers may run membership building and fundraising canvasses, volunteer organizing, ballot initiative petition drives, voter registration, or voter turnout campaigns.
Responsibilities:
- Recruitment: Whether organizing volunteers or managing paid staff, Directors will spend a lot of their time recruiting people to work on their projects. This will include creating a visibility strategy to generate interest in the campaign, interviewing potential staff, and making hiring decisions.
- Staff Management: Directors will supervise teams of staff that could range from 15-50, depending on the project. This will include, conducting individual and group meetings to set goals and provide ongoing feedback and evaluation, setting and enforcing expectations for performance and conduct, and cultivating a welcoming, professional and motivating atmosphere.
- Canvassing and Training: Directors will work to develop and execute a strategy to maximize overall campaign results, teaching field outreach skills to canvassers. This will include canvassing in the field 3 or 4 days per week, training new and experienced staff in the field, giving feedback to crew leaders and demonstrating strong field outreach skills and results.
- Develop Leaders: Directors will work with the best, most dedicated volunteers or staff, teaching them organizing and management skills so that they can take on leadership roles on the campaign, such as trainer roles or field supervisor roles, improving the overall size and quality of the project.
- Administration: Track expenses, manage the budget for your office, process staff payroll, and maintain records for future organizing efforts.
Qualifications:
Strong communication and motivational skills, work ethic, and passion for progressive issues are essential. Candidates must be able to work within a team, have proven leadership ability and experience handling a lot of responsibility. Strong self-direction and the ability to take initiative are also necessary qualifications. Previous campaign experience is a plus, and may qualify candidates for additional leadership positions.
Expectations: Long campaign hours including evenings and weekends.
Timing and Location: Start immediately in Las Vegas, Nevada.
