The Race:
James Ramos is running for California Assembly District 40, a top pick up for Assembly Democrats. He is a dedicated public servant as a current San Bernardino County Supervisor and former member of the San Bernardino Community College Board of Trustees. He is also the immediate past Chairman of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
Context:
In 2016, this district was held onto by the incumbent Republican by 1.3%, only 1,948 votes. Now in the 2018 cycle, the incumbent is stepping down, leaving an open seat. In the primary the partisan turnout favored Democrats 53.4% to 46.6% Republican.
Position:
The campaign is looking for highly motivated field organizers to assist in running a comprehensive district wide field campaign for the November election. As the local face fo the campaign, the primary responsibilities of a field organizer is to recruit, manager, and train volunteers, and organizer their communities into teams that register, persuade, and motivate voters.
Responsibilities:
● Developing a plan to organize their turf based on its unique characteristics.
● Identifying and cultivating volunteer team leaders.
● Personally engaging in direct voter contact, both door-to-door and by phone.
● Planning and executing events and trainings.
● Building relationships with community leaders.
● Writing Letters to the Editor and postcards.
● Ensuring the data integrity of the campaign.
Qualifications:
● Desire to drive straight in and immerse yourself in the campaign and local issues.
● Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
● Knowledge of PDI, Google Sheets, and Microsoft Excel.
● Strong interpersonal skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
● Ability to work independently and in team settings.
● Ability to work long and irregular hours in a metrics-driven work environment.
● Working laptop and phone.
● Ability to meet strict deadlines.
