Community Catalyst is a national not-for-profit consumer advocacy organization working to build a health justice movement. Based in Boston MA, the organization develops new approaches to strengthen the voices of consumers and communities, organize vulnerable constituencies, and build the kinds of organizations and coalitions that can advocate effectively for health care reforms. Position Summary:
The Communications Manager will provide strategic communications counsel and support to state-based advocacy organizations working on implementation of the Affordable Care Act and other related health reform issues. The Communications Manager will also serve as a liaison to a public relations firm that supports the work of state advocates. In addition, the Communications Manager will support Community Catalyst's public information, communication strategies and systems that promote the organization's visibility and enhance public understanding of Community Catalyst and its health work.

Responsibilities:
Assist in development and implementation of all communications activity, including participation in overarching strategy development, communications structure and protocols, messaging and implementation plans.
Provide communications assistance to state consumer organizations, including counsel around developing and carrying out communications strategies and tactics, production of communications materials, proactive and rapid response message development, and media assistance.

Serve as primary liaison to PR agency representatives supporting the work of state advocates and project funder's communications staff.
Support media relations efforts; execute strategies around report releases; write press releases, op-eds, statements and talking points; and triage press calls.
Work with staff to develop and write reports and communications products, including providing assistance in translating complex health policy materials for broader audiences.
Manage preparation and dissemination of cohesive organizational and project materials and manage contracts with printers, graphic/layout designers, etc.
Develop communications component of funder reports and other information provided to relevant stakeholders, including quarterly reports to the Board.
Organize and execute events.
Perform other duties as necessary to achieve the goals of the department.
Qualifications:
Strategic communications experience (minimum of 3-5 years) with strong media relations skills
Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and ability to manage many tasks simultaneously
Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills
Journalism and/or public policy writing experience for lay audiences and policymakers
Strong interest in and knowledge of health policy issues with health communications experience preferred
Experience working with Constituent Relationship Management system (eCRM) preferred
Ability to respond to tight timelines
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people in a variety of settings
Publication development skills
Collaborative team player
Commitment to social justice and experience in social change activism such as: legislative advocacy or political/policy issue campaigns; community organizing; working with coalitions and stakeholders; and/or implementing communications strategies
Bilingual/Bicultural background desirable
Experience working in a multicultural environment
Relevant work experience: Bachelor's plus 5 years, or Master's plus 2 years
