Background:

Since 2003, ProgressNow has been developing our network of state partner organizations to fill a unique and critical role in the progressive infrastructure of key states.

ProgressNow State Partners serve as non-stop, multi-issue communication and advocacy organizations. Year-round, we promote progressive ideas and causes with creative earned media strategies, targeted email campaigns, and cutting-edge digital media and organizing.

It's been said that "all politics is local", and our experience is that lasting change must be rooted in our communities. By focusing our civic engagement and communications work at the state and local level, we are uniquely situated to play an important role in creating true, lasting, progressive change in our states.

The ProgressNow national organization exists to facilitate collaboration between the autonomous state organizations, provide technological assistance, to represent the ProgressNow network at the national level, and to help states raise money and connect the state communications shops to important national efforts which can use their help.

The Opportunity:

ProgressNow National is seeking a full-time Political Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner and network relationships

    • ProgressNow's Political Director is responsible for being the face of the organization within the progressive community and is responsible for fundraising, building strong relationships with current and potential partners both in Washington, DC and around the country, and leveraging those relationships into funding opportunities for both the state affiliates and the national organization.

    • The Political Director will work with individual states to help build project proposals, connect the states with national funders and partners, and generally advocate for ProgressNow at the national level.

    • The Political Director will be actively engaged in campaigns and issue areas that are of interest to the states and will be actively seeking out opportunities through coalitions, individuals meetings, conference calls, and other networking.

  • State affiliate support

    • ProgressNow provides funding, technology support, and training for state affiliates, all of which the Political Director helps to implement. Specific duties may include planning convenings, providing issue or organizing expertise for state affiliates, and other tasks as needed. Support may be carried out via weekly conference calls, site visits, individual state calls, and others means as necessary.

  • Fundraising

    • In collaboration with the Executive Director and board members, the Political Director will actively seek out funding opportunities and collaborations with national partners that line up with state affiliate priorities. Fundraising may also include, but is not limited to,

grant writing and management, major donor fundraising, working with donor circles like the Democracy Alliance to advocate for the work happening in the states, and partnering with labor unions to help support affiliate work.

Salary and Benefits: Commensurate with experience.
