The Research and Policy Analyst will research and synthesize the environmental, health, climate, economic, and social aspects of specific aspects of industrial agriculture to develop the factual basis for our advocacy.  The position will also examine successful policies at local, state, and federal levels and investigate opportunities to expand them.

Responsibilities:

•    Conduct factual research to support litigation and advocacy.
•    Investigate potential new cases or issues, including developing research strategies in areas new to the team, identifying individual and organizations with    expertise.
•    Draft client and expert declarations.
•    Summarize case-related documents and information.
•    Review, analyze, and summarize regulations, environmental planning documents, technical support documents and other factual and technical information to support legal strategies.
•    Draft and submit formal requests to agencies for public records.
•    Communicate with clients, experts and government agencies.
•    Draft comment letters.
•    Draft and fact-check fact sheets, press releases, blogs, news articles, powerpoints, and other materials for internal use or use with clients, coalitions, the media, and others.
•    Draft factual portions of pleadings.
•    Conduct outreach to potential and existing client groups, including from diverse and/or under-served communities.
•    Participate in meetings with coalition partners, clients, government staff, donors, trustees.

Qualifications:

•    Bachelor's Degree (Masters preferred), preferably in Natural or Applied Sciences.
•    Some background, either professional, personal, or academic, with agriculture.
•    At least 2 years of experience in research, ideally sustainable food and farming.
•    Exceptional written and oral communication skills
•    Exceptional Internet and traditional research skills.
•    Excellent ability to perform quantitative data analysis.
•    Excellent ability to understand factual, scientific, technical, economic, historical, and policy aspects of issues and quickly and transfer this knowledge to attorneys in a coherent and non-technical fashion.
•    Excellent computer skills.
•    Excellent ability to interact effectively with clients, experts, coalition partners and government staff.
•    Attention to detail, and comfort in working with deadlines.
•    Outstanding organizational skills.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team, and also the ability to work independently.
