JOB OPENING: COMMUNITY VOTERS PROJECT PROGRAM DIRECTOR

 

The Community Voters Project, a project of the Fair Share Education Fund and the Center for Public Interest Research, is seeking an experienced program director to promote our site-based, non-partisan voter registration campaigns in communities of color across the country during 2016.    

 

About the Community Voters Project:

The long-term goal of the Community Voters Project is to increase voter registration and participation rates in Rising American Electorate communities, which are currently underrepresented in our democracy.  We aim to close the registration and participation gaps between these voters and the rest of the voting population so that the interests and viewpoints of all Americans are fairly represented.

 

In the short term, we're working to achieve a measurable increase in African American and Latino voter participation in our target communities. As a result of our voter registration and GOTV efforts, The Community Voters Project and its affiliated programs have helped to register hundreds of thousands of voters since 2004.

In the 2016 cycle, we plan to register upwards of 100,000 African American and Latino voters in as many as 10 states through an on-the ground-site based programs, which will reach the most disenfranchised voters.   

The Program Director Will Be:

·         Professional & A Good Relationship Builder – Represent CVP to all of the players in the national coalition scene, including potential funders, coalition partners in voter registration and civic engagement coalitions elected officials, and the media.

·         Experienced in Fundraising –Should be able to do all parts of grant seeking: from conceiving of the program to writing about it to pitching it in person.

·         Engaged- Wants to be in the thick of national politics.  They want to stay in touch with the voting rights and rising American electorate communities, they want to look for opportunities to partner, opportunities to raise grant income, and generally build the Community Voters Project.

·         Analytical:  There is increasing attention to data analysis in planning voter registration programs. This person should be comfortable with data. 

·         A Good Manager: the Program Director may help run trainings for directing staff and other aspects of running the program.

·         Experienced in Press Relations: be able to field media inquiries and update social media.

 Qualifications:

We are looking for applicants with a strong commitment to civic engagement, a track-record of success raising money and managing projects; and experience with organizational development and strategic planning.

Previous fundraising and field experience are required. Candidates for this position should have three (3) or more years of relevant professional experience (advanced degrees, including a JD or master's degree in related fields, may count toward a candidate's professional experience).

Additionally, top candidates will:

·         Have strong verbal, writing, interpersonal and analytical skills;

·         Be highly goal-driven and have a track record of academic success and proven leadership ability;

  • Be entrepreneurial and independent, but also have a team orientation that combines collegiality and creativity to drive and motivate others;

·         Be flexible, embrace new challenges, and have a can-do attitude and strong work ethic;

  • Have demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in solving problems; and
  • If based in Los Angeles, be willing to travel extensively on a public interest budget.
