Targeting Associate: The Public Interest Network

 

The Public Interest Network is looking for an analytical, smart, and passionate person who is interested in using his or her experience in data analysis to create social and political change.  The Public Interest Network's Targeting Associate will conduct research, provide reports, and develop materials on legislative, policy and campaign issues, as well as provide other general administrative support to our senior staff.

 

Description of Duties:

  • Assist in facilitating implementation of political activities with our national and field staff;
  • Interact with partners and allied organizations at the state and national level.
  • Support electoral campaign activities, including work with unions and other partner organizations in member to member contact program;
  • Conduct and organize research on legislative, policy and campaign issues, and monitor developments;
  • Manage campaign literature system, including conducting research, drafting documents, tracking literature development, proofing, printing, ordering and coordinating approval and monitoring use in multiple field offices;
  • Track literature inventory across multiple field offices;
  • Research and provide analysis of legislative and campaign finance data;
  • Work on multiple elections in different states at any given time;
  • Build reports in Excel, Access and other similar databases;
  • Independently manage related projects;
  • Extensive travel to support campaign activities; 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills Needed:

  • Two to five years of combined experience in political campaigns, policy work, or other organizing, including program strategy and execution;
  • Experience working with statistical analysis preferred; Demonstrated research and writing skills covering a variety of topics and formats, as well as solid verbal communications capacity required;
  • Track record of work with databases, including VAN, NGP and/or other similar systems required;
  • Familiarity with Congressional and/or state legislative process, and research resources strongly preferred;
  • Appreciation and general understanding of canvassing as a grassroots organizing strategy a plus;

 

  • Ability to work long and irregular hours as necessary.

 

Qualifications:  A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience are required.  More experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.  Experience in fundraising and/or writing with a public interest advocacy organization, or on political campaigns, also is preferred.

A demonstrated commitment to non-profit and social change work, with an enthusiasm for our mission is essential.  Other key qualifications include: flexibility, a can-do attitude, a strong work ethic, the ability to produce high-quality work on a deadline, demonstration of success in managing a variety of projects simultaneously, and the ability to work independently without being adverse to taking direction and following a model.

Compensation & Benefits:  The compensation for this position is commensurate with the amount of relevant professional experience that a candidate possesses. TPIN offers a competitive benefits package.
