The National Wildlife Federation is hiring a Regional Outreach Campaign Manager for the Mid-Atlantic Region.  The position is based out of the Annapolis office but could also be located remotely.
 

The Conservation and Education Programs Team is looking for a Regional Outreach Campaign Manager to join our team in Annapolis, MD.  The National Wildlife Federation, one of America's largest wildlife conservation and education non-profit organizations, is seeking a candidate who will lead priority national, regional and state campaigns in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

The preferred location is in the National Wildlife Federation's Mid-Atlantic Regional Center in Annapolis, MD. Some flexibility in location within the DC metro area may be available for the right candidate.  

The Regional Outreach Campaign (ROC) Manager is a member of both the National Wildlife Federation national outreach campaign team in the National Advocacy Center (NAC) in Washington, DC and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center (MARC) in Annapolis, MD. Priority national campaigns include climate change, clean water, and public lands.  Mid-Atlantic regional campaigns include: restoring the Chesapeake Bay, the Delaware River watershed, and incorporating climate change into the management of the region's natural resources, promoting policies that create a more sustainable economy and connecting people more deeply to their environment and natural resources.  We are committed to enriching the conservation community by promoting diversity of all types in our outreach efforts.

 In this job you will:

  • Design, staff, manage, and implement field campaign opportunities for national, regional, and state campaigns
  • Collaborate with regional staff to engage NWF affiliate organizations in field campaigns as appropriate
  • Participate in the process of recruitment and hiring field organizer contractors in multiple states for multiple campaigns
  • Participate in the on-boarding and training of new contractors and affiliate staff so that they understand the big-picture strategy of the campaign and their role in winning
  • Supervise each organizer by setting clear goals, developing work plans, acting as a coach and mentor to ensure the organizer's development, and conducting regular check-ins and offering feedback
  • Work with field leadership to design national and regional field campaign goals and implement them with individual organizer goals, develop timelines and work plans, and produce reports to tell the story of your team's progress
  • Coordinate with national and regional coalitions
  • Participate in and lead campaign tactics such as generating earned media, organizing town hall meetings and events such as green drinks
  • Develop relationships with key political players, opinion leaders, allied organizations and coalitions to build the base of support within the region

 Qualifications:

Applicants for this position should bring the following knowledge, abilities, and attitude:

  • An undergraduate degree in environmental studies, political science, conservation, or related field is preferred
  • At least five years of professional experience required, including campaign work
  • Knowledge of and commitment to conservation issues
  • Familiarity working with chapter or affiliate organizational structure
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including comfort meeting and talking with new people
  • Effective communication skills - face-to-face and in writing
  • Experience with movement building, grassroots organizing, and volunteer engagement,
  • Ability to use, or learn to use, data to set goals and measure progress
  • Flexible, innovative, and self-motivated to identify priorities and complete work
  • Prior organizing experience OR prior staff management experience
  • A basic understanding of campaign strategy (demonstrated by the ability to articulate the goals, strategy, activities, and results of a campaign you worked on as an employee, intern or volunteer)
  • Familiarity with core tactics of organizing, including: grassroots mobilization, grasstops engagement, earned and opinion media generation, phone banking, one-on-one meetings, and organizational meetings
  • Comfortable with technology, and can learn new tools quickly
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc.) to meet campaign goals
  • Collaborative and understands the value of working towards shared goals
  • Adept at balancing multiple priorities
  • Readily adapts to circumstances and is able to shift goals/work plans accordingly
  • Licensed driver with access to a vehicle
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required, as well as a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

This role will require travel throughout the NWF Mid-Atlantic region (DE, KY, MD, NC, PA, TN, VA, and WV) and to NWF's National Advocacy Center in DC, and may include evening hearings and meetings.
