Our Purpose
Today's traditional workforce was built by white men for white men. Today's model of leadership is based on traditionally masculine skillsets, all of which are framed as sources of power. Our imagery, management books, and heroes of business usually display some or all of these characteristics: aggressive, competitive, high IQ, networked for power, dominant, extroverted, ruthless. Conversely, many of the skillsets women naturally excel at and display, such as empathy, high EQ, community, collaboration, humility, conciliation are deemed weaknesses.
Women that 'make it' in this dominant architecture often sacrifice parts of themselves to do so, with far more of us hitting glass ceilings, glass cliffs or taking a different path. Too often women are taught that the few roles at the top require competing with other women to get to them, or conforming with stereotypical archetypes of leadership to get to the top, which either rules them out, or has them lose their authenticity. And even then, all the research to date says that if the architecture continues with incremental changes only, it will take 100 years for women to reach parity in the workplace.
We're not here to lean into a system that doesn't work for us, we're here to disrupt it and create a new system that works for everyone.
About the League of Badass Women
Founded by Hannah Jones in 2015, the League of Badass Women is a global network of women dedicated to championing women in the workplace and reimagining the definition of great leadership. It started as a 2 a.m. epiphany that led to the creation of a single Facebook page. Today we have over 10,000 members and 22 city chapters across the globe.
The mission of the League of Badass Women is to connect and empower communities of women to support each other, to rewrite the rules of leadership, and disrupt the world of work for good. By 2025 we envision a world where female leadership is recognized in the mainstream as an asset to the world and the new definition of "great leadership."
