It's understandable if the term "food bank" conjures thoughts of church basements filled with cramped rows of canned goods and boxed pasta. But at Oregon Food Bank, we take a decidedly different approach in our mission to end hunger.
We believe that food and health are basic human rights for all. So of course we build community connections to help people access nutritious affordable food -- 54.5 million meals' worth in the last year alone. But we also know that hunger is not just an individual experience; it is also a community-wide symptom of barriers to employment, education, housing and health care. So we're devoting significant resources to building community power to eliminate the root causes of hunger for good -- including robust advocacy, field organizing and strategic communications teams.
As OFB's new Public Relations Manager, you'll play an integral role in our efforts to end hunger across Oregon and Southwest Washington. This key communications leadership role will build on our considerable reputation by engaging key media outlets and influencers, proactively pitching success stories and sharing the work of our experts in the field. You'll help to educate decision-makers and the public about necessary action to end hunger. And you'll train an ever-growing corps of spokespeople to effectively communicate our vision for equity and social justice in Oregon and beyond.
If you're a mid-to-senior level public/media relations professional who's looking to have an outsized impact alongside a talented team in a great community, then I hope you'll join us! OFB believes strongly in the power of lived experience, so we're particularly interested in candidates who hail from traditionally under-represented communities and/or have experienced food insecurity in their own lives. Salary range is $52,920 to $76,734, depending on experience. Ideal start date in November, with potential flexibility for out-of-state candidates.
Additional details on the role, required experience and application process are available on the OFB website. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have!
Thanks,
Jason
