Temporary, Full-Time, Based in D.C.| Up to $25,000 plus generous benefits


About NETWORK:

A national network of social justice advocates, and the organization behind Nuns on the Bus, NETWORK educates, organizes and lobbies for economic and social transformation. Founded in 1971 by Catholic sisters in the progressive spirit of Vatican II, NETWORK works to "Mend the Gaps" in income and wealth disparity and works to create a society and economy of inclusion.

Why this position matters:

The Communications team communicates a clearly defined agenda of federal issues where Gospel justice is at stake. They engage and activate our network through writing and creating multi-media content disseminated through email, website, social media, Connection magazine, and traditional media. The Communications team advances the NETWORK brand and advocates for NETWORK priorities across all communications channels and vehicles. They integrate media and messaging strategies into NETWORK campaigns and major projects and ensure organizational consistency across all communications.

You could be a Communications Associate if you have:

·      a passion for social, racial, and economic justice, demonstrated through internships with elected officials, think-tanks, or advocacy organizations; volunteer (or paid) activism with campus, community, or labor organizations; policy, academic, or journalistic research; or any position in which you advocated for social justice

·      an interest in journalism, digital media, and disseminating NETWORK's message as widely as possible

·      strong listening, oral communication, and written communication skills

·      experience with journalism, social media, or a detail-oriented position that required organization

·      the ability to work under pressure, work independently and on a team, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects;

·      computer proficiency

·      a commitment to creating a multicultural, anti-racist organization.

·      Familiarity with faith-based organizations, federal policymaking, and lobbying are a plus, but not required!

·      Demonstrated experience working with marginalized populations (particularly communities of color, low-income communities, and immigrant communities) strongly preferred

 

 

 What you are great at:

·      Researching, writing, and speaking clearly about social justice issues

·      Creating, editing, and disseminating content that promotes NETWORK's agenda

·      Picking up new skills quickly and applying those skills in a collaborative environment

 

What you'll be doing:

·         Brainstorming and creating content/recruit writers for NETWORK's Emerging Justice Seekers blog stream, and writing at least two blogs/month.

·         Be responsible for coordinating Communications pieces of Simone's travel (Simone Circle) including email alerts, fliers, press releases, and social media.

·         Contributing to social media content and strategy, be responsible for Facebook posts as assigned, and leading team efforts surrounding Twitter scheduling, Tweetstorms, and live Tweeting.

·         Collecting research, drafting content, and/or creating graphics to support rapid response or issue-driven resources and content creation.

·         Tracking NETWORK's media appearances and disseminating that information via a media round up (NETWORK in the News), social media, and NETWORK's website.

·         Drafting, gathering, and/or editing content for Connection magazine as assigned.

·         Supporting NETWORK's email program to ensure the program meets the needs of the Government Relations, Grassroots Mobilization, and Development teams, and other organizational needs.

Compensation:

The Communications Associate will receive:

·         A $15,000 stipend paid over 24 paychecks

·         A monthly housing stipend (up to $800/month)

·         100% premium coverage on a platinum level-health, dental, and vision plan

·         A monthly commute stipend ($100/month)

·         Generous paid time off (11 sick days; 2 personal days; 10 vacation days; and 12 holidays)

·         Intensive professional mentorship, including graduate school support and help finding your next position
