A national network of social justice advocates, and the organization behind Nuns on the Bus, NETWORK educates, organizes and lobbies for economic and social transformation. Why this position matters:
The Government Relations team is responsible for building relationships and clout with federal policymakers. For NETWORK to meaningfully reduce racial, economic, and gender inequality, it is vitally important to develop strong relationships with federal policymakers and deep knowledge about public policy. That means developing expertise on policy issues, tracking political developments, representing NETWORK with coalitions, clearly communicating NETWORK's stance to policymakers, and frequently meeting with elected officials.
You could be a Government Relations Associate if you have:
· a passion for social, racial, and economic justice, demonstrated through internships with elected officials, think-tanks, or advocacy organizations; volunteer (or paid) activism with campus, community, or labor organizations; policy, academic, or journalistic research; or any position in which you advocated for social justice
· an interest in researching federal policy, building relationships with federal policymakers, and learning the "ins-and-outs" of Washington
· strong listening, oral communication, and written communication skills;
· experience in a detail-oriented position that required a very high level of organizational skills;
· the ability to work under pressure, work independently and on a team, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects;
· computer proficiency
· a commitment to creating a multicultural, anti-racist organization.
· Familiarity with faith-based organizations, federal policymaking, and lobbying are a plus, but not required!
· Demonstrated experience working with marginalized populations (particularly communities of color, low-income communities, and immigrant communities) strongly preferred
What you are great at:
· Researching, writing, and speaking clearly about social justice issues
· Building relationships with politicians, community leaders, or fellow activists
· Picking up new skills quickly and applying those skills in a collaborative environment
What you'll be doing:
· Learning in-depth about a few federal-level issues (i.e. your policy portfolio)
· Conducting extensive research about your policy portfolio
· Creating reports, fact-sheets, and leave-behinds for NETWORK's lobby work
· Actively engaging in coalitions relevant to your policy portfolio, including: attending meetings, sharing information, and accepting responsibility for shared tasks
· Making appointments for NETWORK's visits to Capitol Hill, preparing materials for such visits, and recording key information during these visits
· Coordinating pieces of the annual voting record data collection and dissemination
· Writing, or finding an author for, one blog post per month
· Working with other NETWORK teams to keep staff and members informed about policy issues by writing, drafting, or assisting with: action alerts, sample letters, talking points, background material, sections of Connection magazine, the issue section of our website, and fact sheets about your policy portfolio

Compensation:
The Government Relations Associate will receive:
· A $15,000 stipend paid over 24 paychecks
· A monthly housing stipend (up to $800/month)
· 100% premium coverage on a platinum level-health, dental, and vision plan
· A monthly commute stipend ($100/month)
· Generous paid time off (11 sick days; 2 personal days; 10 vacation days; and 12 holidays)
