About NETWORK:

A national network of social justice advocates, and the organization behind Nuns on the Bus, NETWORK educates, organizes and lobbies for economic and social transformation. Founded in 1971 by Catholic sisters in the progressive spirit of Vatican II, NETWORK works to "Mend the Gaps" in income and wealth disparity and works to create a society and economy of inclusion.

We value women's leadership, we appreciate people from religious and secular backgrounds, we affirm members of the LGBTQ+ community, and we engage in the ongoing work to become a multicultural anti-racist organization.

Why this position matters:

The Grassroots Mobilization team is responsible for growing, connecting, and nourishing NETWORK's Spirit-filled network of justice seekers.  The team coordinates our relationships among all who share our passions: our Advocates Teams and Councils; congregations of women religious; individual activists; faith-based advocacy groups; students, recent grads, and student groups; and other local/state coalition partners. They educate these individuals and groups on NETWORK's policy priorities, equip them to build relationships with their Members of Congress, and mobilize individuals to optimize advocacy strategies.

You could be a Grassroots Mobilization Associate if you have:

·      a passion for social, racial, and economic justice, demonstrated through internships with elected officials, think-tanks, or advocacy organizations; volunteer (or paid) activism with campus, community, or labor organizations; policy, academic, or journalistic research; or any position in which you advocated for social justice

·      an interest in building relationships with NETWORK members, delivering presentations about NETWORK's agenda, and mobilizing NETWORK members to take political action

·      exceptionally strong listening, oral communication, and written communication skills

·      experience with public speaking, phone banking, teaching, or a detail-oriented position that required confidence and organization

·      the ability to work under pressure, work independently and on a team, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects;

·      computer & phone proficiency

·      a commitment to creating a multicultural, anti-racist organization.

·      Familiarity with faith-based organizations, federal policymaking, and lobbying are a plus, but not required!

·      Demonstrated experience working with marginalized populations (particularly communities of color, low-income communities, and immigrant communities) strongly preferred

 What you are great at:

·      Researching, writing, and speaking clearly about social justice issues

·      Building relationships with politicians, community leaders, or fellow activists

·      Picking up new skills quickly and applying those skills in a collaborative environment

What you'll be doing:

·         Building relationships with members to increase their participation in NETWORK campaigns, including rapid response actions, in-district lobby visits, writing op-eds/LTEs, and providing training.

·         Giving presentations and trainings to visiting groups, and accompany them to the Hill, as requested.

·         Creating educational material and curriculum to educate the public about our issues.

·         Writing blogs for the "Emerging Justice Seekers" blog stream and find guest blog contributors.

·         Participating in conferences — attending, tabling, and/or giving workshops — and following up with attendees.

·         Building relationships with local partners through WISC and other coalitions.

·         Connecting with Simone events (organizers and participants) and following up on relationships.

·         Supporting, helping plan, and following up with contacts from the Nuns on the Bus (NOTB) tours.

What it's like working at NETWORK:

Rooted in Catholic Social Justice, NETWORK is open to all who share our passion for justice. Staff and members are people from a variety of religious and nonreligious backgrounds.  As an organization and workplace, NETWORK values work-life balance and strives to be a supportive workplace environment where staff embrace the "Sister-Spirit" of our foundresses by rooting our understanding in encounter, not ideology; prioritizing the well-being of others; seeing everyone as people first, not just roles; and using humor and being feisty in order to be bold and willing to do the unpopular.  Read More.
