Title: Deputy Engagement Director (full-time, exempt)

Reports to: Engagement Director

Location: Washington, DC


Giffords is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives from gun violence.Led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Giffords inspires the courage of people from all walks of life to make America safer.

 

The Deputy Engagement Director will help to build and maintain existing Giffords coalitions while expanding collaborations across a broad range of stakeholders and potential partners. The Deputy will work closely with the Engagement Director and will have a strong ability to cultivate and deepen supporter relationships, manage various projects at one time, and balance a short- and long-term strategic vision for the coalition and partnership work.

 

Position requires ability and interest in traveling up to 20% and occasional weekend and evening events.

 

DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with the Director to develop and implement engagement strategies and campaigns on gun violence prevention efforts at the national, state, and local levels.
  • Develops and cultivates new partnerships.
  • Leverages Giffords' research and policy capabilities to support allies and serves as a resource to partners and allies on substantive issues.
  • Continues efforts to expand and broaden Giffords' engagement to include a diverse and inclusive group of stakeholders working on the issue.
  • Represents and conveys Giffords' policy approach in discussions with coalition groups, community leaders, stakeholder organizations, and press.
  • Plans and implements public and private events, meetings, summits, conferences, and other special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS + EXPERIENCE

  • 5-7 years' experience in organizing, campaigns, legislative advocacy, coalition-building, or related fields; prior campaign and legislative experience with gun violence prevention, community violence intervention and/or criminal justice reform preferred.
  • Experience working with 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 organizations preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to convey complex issues in clear and simple terms.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to be flexible.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sense of humor and ability to work well on a team.
  • Commitment to organization's mission and goals.
