Advocacy Coordinator

ABOUT THE FACT COALITION

The Financial Accountability and Corporate Transparency (FACT) Coalition is a non-partisan alliance of more than 100 state, national, and international organizations in the United States working toward a fair tax system that addresses the challenges of a global economy and promoting policies to combat the harmful impacts of corrupt financial practices.

The coalition is currently focused on two main campaigns: 1) ending the use of anonymous shell companies as vehicles for illicit activity, and 2) requiring greater transparency from multinational corporations to promote informed tax policy.

More information about the coalition is available online at thefactcoalition.org.

POSITION SUMMARY

The FACT Coalition is seeking an Advocacy Coordinator. The full-time position is based in Washington, D.C. The Advocacy Coordinator will chiefly work with the coalition's Executive Director — as well as with coalition members — to help formulate and implement campaign strategies and tactics to achieve the FACT Coalition's advocacy objectives.

Candidates need to be flexible and comfortable working in various environments: independently, on a small central team, and with a larger team of coalition partners and allies.  They should have the ability to juggle multiple tasks and work quickly in a fast-paced environment.  They should be able to take initiative and have excellent writing and public speaking skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Executive Director and the Steering Committee in formulating advocacy campaign strategies to influence decision makers in Congress, the Administration and elsewhere.
  • Work with the ED, coalition members, and allies to implement the Coalition's campaigns, in both legislative and administrative forums. This will include direct lobbying with congressional offices and government agencies, as well as drafting advocacy materials.
  • Identify and engage additional stakeholders — including non-traditional allies — to support campaign efforts.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the Coalition, whether in the media, at conferences and events, or in other venues, as directed by the Executive Director.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the management of FACT's communications efforts, including media lists, the website, and social media.
  • Engaging member groups in the Coalition's work, as well as recruiting new partners into the Coalition.
  • Assist with general management and administrative duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of three years of professional experience with non-profit organizations, campaigns, government offices, or relevant positions in the private sector.
  • A proven history of program or team leadership at a non-profit, policy, philanthropic, or advocacy-focused organization.
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally.
  • Diplomacy and an ability to read a room.
  • Some knowledge of, or experience with, tax and financial transparency issues is preferred, though detailed policy expertise is not necessary.
  • Pre-existing relationships within the NGO community, foundations, media, advocacy groups, and relevant policymakers are desirable.
  • Experience with website, blogging, mass email, and social media platforms.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree; advanced degrees in related fields are a plus.
