Nevada Conservation League (NCL) is hiring a Deputy Director to provide programmatic leadership in the family of organizations that make up NCL.
Who we are
NCL is the political voice of Nevada's conservation community. We advocate for sound conservation policies, organize and train conservation leaders and advocates, work to increase civic engagement, educate and endorses candidates for public office, and hold elected officials and decision-makers accountable on the conservation and environmental issues we work on; climate, clean air, clean water, protecting our public lands and open spaces, and public health and livability. We strive to work in a way that recognizes and builds a deeper understanding of racial justice that achieves more just outcomes and builds a more inclusive organization.
The NCL family of organizations include Nevada Conservation League, a 501(c)(4) the organization, Nevada Conservation League Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization, and Nevada Conservation League Political Action Committee, our political arm that directly helps elect pro-conservation candidates to win office.
Position Summary
The Deputy Director serves as a senior-level strategist, planner, and bridge builder for NCL's family of organizations' programs and represents the organization and/or acts on behalf of the Executive Director in their absence. The Deputy Director oversees program work and campaign planning for the NCL family of organizations and leads and manages program staff to elevate environmental issues, helps elect pro-conservation candidates, secure pro-environment policy victories, increases NCL membership and engagement that builds leadership for conservation issues, and increases civic engagement in Nevada. Ultimately, the Deputy Director will ensure program success and accountability to program staff, members, funders, and communities; and additional responsibilities as requested by the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
The Deputy Director is responsible for the planning, management, and oversight of program work for the NCL family of organizations, including issue advocacy, civic engagement, political, electoral, and organizing programs. The Deputy Director will partner with the Executive Director on essential organizational activities. The Deputy Director will support fundraising and grant writing. This position will work closely with the Administrative Assistant and Executive Director to ensure the well-functioning of the organizations' administrative systems and human resource policies.
Qualifications
We are seeking a strong planner and manager to lead the programs of the NCL family of organizations. You must be able to manage multiple projects at one time while making decisions quickly. We are looking for someone with multiple years of demonstrated experience and success leading and planning issue advocacy and/or electoral campaigns. Proven ability to manage a team and individual team members to develop a shared understanding of goals and expectations, deliver outcomes, and support staff growth. Strong communications skills are required with experience communicating plans and reporting outcomes to multiple stakeholders. Experience building relationships especially across differences and with diverse stakeholders. Preferences will be given for those with a familiarity with conservation issues and the politics and legislative systems of Nevada. And for those that possess and understand campaign finance and non-profit tax-exempt laws and rules.
All employees of NCL must possess an outstanding work ethic, be self-motivated with exceptional organizational skills; attention to detail, and ability to meet strict deadlines and a proven history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles. Proven problem-solving skills, a willingness to take the initiative, with flexibility and an eagerness to learn. Possess the ability to give and receive feedback. Demonstrate cultural competency and a track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of stakeholders. Must have a commitment to racial justice and equity and making it part of your work and the organization's work.
Salary and Compensation: The salary range is $65,000 - $75,000 depending on qualifications and experience. The salary is accompanied by benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, and paid time off.
Job Status: This is a full-time, exempt position. The Deputy Director will report to the Executive Director
Working Conditions: This position is based in Las Vegas, NV with some ability to work from home or outside the office. Work is typically performed in an office environment while sitting at a computer screen for extended periods. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts when working with office machines. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms when working with documents, files, computers, or office machines. This position requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions, exposure to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people. Reliable transportation is required. Some evening and weekend hours are required and during some periods we will work more than 40 hours per week. There will be occasional travel within Nevada and in the United States. There will be some lifting and moving of boxes, equipment, and furniture required.
