Position: Student Fellow
Organization: Friends of Cheri Bustos
Friends of Cheri Bustos is now accepting applications for the following Student Fellows for the 2020 election: Digital, Finance, Outreach, and Organizing.
Ideal candidates have strong interpersonal, organizing, and writing skills, in addition to an enthusiasm for, and commitment to, progressive causes and the Democratic Party. Student Fellows will work virtually part-time through the Election Day.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Digital Fellow
Directly support the Digital Director.
Develop concepts and designs for Cheri Bustos' campaign social media outlets including Twitter and Facebook, and potentially Instagram.
Support video editing projects, including drafting copy for text-based videos.
Draft copy and do basic research for social media posts.
Finance Fellow
Directly support the Deputy Finance Director.
Help plan for and implement fundraisers and other related events.
Outreach Fellow
Directly support the Political and Outreach Director.
Research on local stakeholders, groups, organizations, and events.
Help implement Citizen Endorser program.
Organizing Fellow
Directly support Distributed and Relational Organizers.
Help organize events including house parties, phonebanks, and text banks.
Help with administrative duties of managing volunteers.
Minimum qualifications include:
Strong research and writing skills.
Ability to work part-time through the school year, potentially until the end of November.
Excitement about progressive causes and the Democratic Party.
Commitment to a culture of positivity and support.
Ideal qualifications include:
All: Living in, or area knowledge of, IL-17.
Outreach and Organizing: Background in campaigning, volunteering or otherwise.
Digital: Intermediate to advanced understanding of Adobe Suite particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro; experience using social media tools such as TweetDeck, Buffer, CoSchedule, and Hootsuite; and, current a design student or designer with portfolio of proven design skills.
Finance: Background or studies in either finance-related field, or experience in development.
These positions are part-time and expect 20 hours of work per week through the election. Each Fellow will receive a paid stipend for their work equal to $15/hr. Organizing Fellows will be expected to work on some weekends and weeks occasionally longer than 20 hours.
The Political and Outreach Director will be the lead for programming for Student Fellows, and work to support Students that are interested to receive appropriate college credit as allowed. Relatedly, if students need an unpaid position due to required volunteer expectations, the Political and Outreach Director will work to support this request.
