Our turnout operation and innovative program helped restore voting rights to 1.4 million Floridians, expand Medicaid coverage to 400,000 in Virginia, and resulted in sizable electoral progress at the state and federal level, including the pickup of 3 Governor mansions, 1 Senate seat, 13 Congressional seats, and 22 state legislative seats.

 

For Our Future will continue to grow and win through 2020, building power across issue fights and elections. Headquartered in Washington, DC, our current state programs include Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

 

JOB SUMMARY

For Our Future Florida seeks a motivated, outgoing, and results-driven organizer to support our voter outreach efforts in Pinellas County. You will run the day-to-day voter contact in your assigned turf and work to engage area residents and activists on local and national causes, candidates, and campaigns that matter to them. For Our Future Florida is a statewide, coalition organization that builds progressive power through voter engagement and organizing within communities around key issues. We uplift the voices of the community to strengthen public education, advance social and racial justice, preserve our environment, and fight for working families. Candidates should have familiarity with Pinellas County, experience working in political campaigns or organizing environments, comfort working long hours, basic digital skills, and access to reliable transportation.


This is a full-time position through at least November 6, 2020.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

●      Organize on the ground, building relationships with voters, in diverse communities with the core goals of:

○       Persuading them to vote for progressive candidates and issues

○      Motivating them to vote for progressive candidates and issues

●      Perform voter contact functions daily, to ensure that daily, weekly, and monthly goals are met. This includes the following:

○       Face-to-face canvassing on the doors with voters (per state guidance during COVID-19)

○       Phone calls to voters

○      Texting voters

○      Organizing voters through social media channels

○      Collecting stories of voters

●      Meet assigned goals associated with each metric on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

●      Report daily on quantitative and qualitative metrics, ensuring timely and accurate data entry and reporting.

●      Assist in building and managing community events in execution of our field and organizing strategy.

●      Recruit volunteers to help meet your daily, weekly, and monthly goals.

●      Work with field leadership to plan and help implement new outreach strategies in your region.

●      Attend weekly scheduled calls and meetings.

●      Recruit and hold one-on-one meetings with voters and potential volunteers.

●      Attend trainings on voter contact tactics and program strategy.

●      Assist in coaching and training other staff or volunteers on best practices for organizing; direct voter contact, recruitment, and retention.

●      Represent the organization at community events and meetings when assigned.


Qualifications:

●      High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

●      At least 1-2 cycles of campaign or other voter contact experience (as a volunteer or staff member).

●      Knowledge of Votebuilder/VAN or a willingness to learn is preferred.

●      Experience with social media preferred (such as Facebook).

●      Basic computer literacy, database skills, and prefer access to a reliable portable computer. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel is a plus.

●      Must have access to reliable transportation.

●      Ability to work long and irregular hours in a fast-paced, metrics-driven work environment.

●      Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while handling multiple projects.

●      Ability to work independently and in team settings.

●      Strong interpersonal communications skills.

●      Possess a winning mentality.

●      Bilingual experience is a plus, but not required.

  

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  

●      None.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

●      Because of COVID-19, state and local government stay at home orders, phased reopening orders, and other factors limit For Our Future's canvassing program. When these limits apply, your work environment will likely be your domicile (teleworking) or a socially distanced office. Door-to-door canvassing is considered an essential function of this job. When it is possible to safely and appropriately resume door-to-door canvassing, it will be a high priority. Employees may be required to work in extreme weather conditions, including rain, heat, and cold. This position is expected to interact regularly with community partners face-to-face or in a group setting and may also be expected to interact face-to-face with volunteers or voters

 

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK  

■       Employees may be required to work outside of normal business hours including weekends, holidays, and nights.

■       Employees may be required to abide by certain blackout dates during a campaign cycle, and generally not allowed to take more than 2-3 days off consecutively during blackout periods. Emergencies will not be affected by this policy.
