UDW Job Description: Communications Coordinator, San Diego, CA
Job Summary: United Domestic Workers of America (UDW/AFSCME Local 3930) seeks a Communications Coordinator to amplify the voices of homecare providers and America's working families. The right person for this job will have a commitment to economic and social justice, and work with our team to create worker-centered communications. This position is primarily focused on the production of printed materials, and it includes some coordination of event-based communications. We are looking for someone who is creative and has experience developing effective visual and written communications. This position is based in San Diego.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop marketing and outreach materials such as brochures, leaflets, posters, newsletters, and mailers.
- Work with vendors and UDW staff to design, produce, and distribute print materials and union swag.
- Serve as a point person for sourcing materials and obtaining cost estimates from vendors.
- Track project timelines and tasks.
- Obtain accurate membership lists for mailings and material distribution.
- Coordinate the translation of materials into multiple languages.
- Execute event communications, including visuals, materials, video, photography and social media.
- Create and obtain content for marketing materials such as member profiles and photos.
- Support other activities related to UDW's internal and external communications programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create effective and visually appealing printed materials.
- Works well under pressure and with tight deadlines.
- Able to handle numerous projects at the same time and work independently.
- Commitment to social and economic justice.
- Well-organized, attentive to detail, and able to follow verbal instructions.
- Creative and has an eye for design.
- Software: MS Office Suite, Adobe InDesign & Photoshop, other Adobe Creative Suite programs (or ability to learn)
- Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese a plus.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours, sometimes including weekends, to complete projects and support campaigns.
- Willingness to travel, as needed.
- Valid driver's license and reliable car.
