Job Description:

All Earth Day Network (EDN) Staff are responsible for articulating and contributing to an inspired vision for the organization; taking projects from concept to lift-off to completion; learning and adapting from experience; listening and working as a team to generate and implement new ideas; building relationships to bridge differences and find common grounds with people inside and outside of the organization; communicating effectively, orally and in writing.

EDN seeks a full-time Communications Director to serve as an integral member of the senior management team. The Communications Director will be responsible for the development and execution of EDN's communication strategy, including media advocacy, digital advocacy, thought leadership, organizational/issue visibility and communications marketing. The Communications Director will provide direct oversight for Communications Associates and other department staff, set department goals and priorities, and evaluate outcomes and results to inform future work.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute an integrated strategic communications plan to advance EDN's work and mission, broaden awareness of EDN's work and increase the visibility of the organization.
  • Work with digital team to develop and implement a robust social media and email plan for EDN.
  • Work with the management team and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
  • Set departmental goals, track progress and objectives, and assess performance of department and staff.
  • Oversee and ensure brand consistency across publications and the website.
  • Coordinate and in some cases create thought leadership content.
  • Oversee EDN website and work with digital team to keep content updated, accurate and timely.
  • Ensure that press releases are well written accurate and drafted in a timely manner.
  • Identify appropriate channels for stories and pitches and maintain relationships with journalists, producers, bookers, bloggers and social media outlets.
  • Oversee and create communications materials.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • A belief in the mission of Earth Day Network.
  • At least 5 years' professional experience in a communications management role.
  • Experience working with environmental organizations/issues.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills, strong attention to detail and grace under pressure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including an ability to anticipate problems and use judgment appropriately to plan solutions.
  • Excellent oral, written and computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and facility working with a wide variety of people.
  • Integrity and a sense of humor.

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience.
