We are looking for a talented communications expert to help coordinate 350.org's US communications work, especially on the West Coast. This role would help lead communications strategy and media relations for our campaigns on fossil fuel divestment, fracking, fossil fuel infrastructure projects, and other areas of work.
About 350.org
350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organize in a new way—everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyze transformation around the world.
About the US Communications Coordinator position
This US Communications Coordinator role will work closely with our US Communications Team on campaigns across the United States. 350.org is at the forefront of some of the most exciting cliamte efforts in the country, from the fossil fuel divestment movement, to grassroots efforts to keep fossil fuels in the ground, to political campaigning to make climate change a top priority for our nation. The US Communications Coordinator will support day-to-day media relations for one or all of these campaigns, depending on our priorities, as well as help lead innovative communications campaigns that can drive our desired narratives forward in the popular imagination. This position will be based out of one of our offices in Brooklyn, DC or Oakland, although for exceptional candidates we will consider remote working options. The role reports to our US Communications Manager.
A candidate will be most successful if they are creative and self-driven, an excellent communicator and writer with a talent for reaching multiple audiences. Each day they will need to balance their own priorities, whether it is pitching journalists, planning a long term communications effort, working with filmmakers on a short documentary, writing an op-ed, or training local volunteers to become more effective spokespeople. We're looking for someone who excels at the nuts-and-bolts of traditional media relations, but can think outside the box and won't rest until they can find a way to spread the message of our campaigns far and wide. Flexibility is a must: we're looking for a candidate who can coordinate long-term work, as well as jump on rapid response opportunities when the moment comes.
