Major Gifts Manager

The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund and Institute works to achieve full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people by building, supporting, and advancing a diverse network of LGBT public leaders. Through its training and professional development programs, the Victory Institute assists hundreds of individuals who go on to influential careers in politics, government, business and advocacy each year. Many of the Victory Institute's trainees join the more than 1,000 openly LGBT elected and appointed officials now serving around the world.
The Major Gifts Manager is charged with raising major gifts ($1,000+) for Victory's three arms: Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund (a 527 PAC), the Gay & Lesbian Victory Institute (a 501 (c)3), and One Victory (C4 social welfare organization). Within the Victory family or organizations, the Major Gifts Manager will work with the Boards of Directors and local Host Committees to raise funds from their prospects and around events.
Responsibilities:
Fundraising
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and manage prospective major donors who can contribute $1,000+ annually
- Manage, cultivate, and increase contributions from current major donors who contribute $1,000 to $5,000 annually
- Use a variety of solicitation tools, including: events, meetings, calls, and online communication;
- Identify and research potential corporate sponsors and foundations in tandem with relevant members of the Development Team.
- Manage relationships, communications and giving plans with major donors around the country;
- Collaborate with Development staff, Board of Directors and Victory Campaign Board (VCB) members to manage major gift fundraising efforts around Victory Signature events such as regional Champagne Brunches, and other local events.
- Work to identify and engage a pipeline of future organization leaders for Victory.
- Identify and schedule donor prospect meetings for the President & CEO, other Senior Staff, Board and VCB members.
- Works with development, political, and program staff as well as the Board of Directors to identify new and creative methods for increasing revenue through established event series.
Management
- Manage donor portfolio of 150 individuals, corporations, and foundations around monthly contributions, major gifts, events, and grants
- Effectively work with host committees to assist in fundraising, committee expansion and profitability
- Manage the money and contributions received on the day of the event
- Foster loyalty, educate and update volunteers on Victory's program goals and activities.
- Develop annual fundraising plan including revenue and expense projections.
Day-to-day Responsibilities
A large majority of the day will be spent communicating with donors and prospects to generate revenue
Correspondence with appropriate staff, vendors, board members, host committees and volunteers
Preparation for all meetings related to events
Update guest lists and timeline on a daily basis
Review and approve all marketing materials as necessary
Expect to travel on a routine basis. Overtime and weekend work is also expected.
Indicators of success:
Meet and exceed revenue goal of $700,000 through major gifts and events sponsorships
Achieve guest attendance goal
Meet all deadlines set for each event
Receive feedback from a large majority of guests, board members, host committees and supporters
Design and implement a yearly plan and timeline for each of Victory's signature events
Qualifications:
- Four-year college degree
- 3-5 years of working experience, primarily as a fundraising professional
- Experience and commitment to working within a team environment to meet hard fundraising targets established through annual budgeting
