Position Description:

The Electoral Organizer will work as a member of CCC's political/electoral team to help develop and implement CCC's political/electoral strategy. The political/electoral team works closely with CCC's field partners, organizing staff, communications team, policy team, and other teams to achieve the organization's mission.

A portion of time will be spent working with CCC's sister organization, the Center for Community Change Action

Principal Responsibilities

  • Help build electoral energy and capacity among grassroots partners and constituencies.
  • Support the strategic direction of the Center's electoral work, and in coordination with CCC's organizing staff and field partners, contribute to the advancement of the organization's issue priorities through a comprehensive organizational strategy that links electoral organizing to CCC's priority issue work at both a national and grassroots level.
  • Provide the means for technical assistance to community-based organizations on a range of electoral capacities, including but not limited to: list management, plan writing, goal setting, targeting, budgeting and building a field infrastructure.
  • Track the national landscape related to electoral organizing, including development of best practices identified by other national organizations and networks, national constituency organizations, election protection organizations, and allies in the labor, faith, and civil rights arena.
  • Monitor demographic and political trends related to voting and civic participation to create reports.
  • Represent the Center in coalition meetings, state tables and trainings.
  • Work with other Center staff to advance their understanding and use of electoral tools and strategies in the context of community organizing.
  • Travel throughout the country to work with local partner organizations, fundraise, and meet with grassroots community, labor, non-profit and political leaders.

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment and passion to building the political power of low-income communities, particularly people of color.
  • At least three years of experience in electoral work with a strong background in community organizing and demonstrated ability to relate to grassroots community organizations.
  • Strong understanding of legal parameters for electoral organizing in 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) contexts.
  • Experience in working with local and national political coalitions.
  • Significant experience in electoral campaign planning, program development and budgeting.
  • A strategic mindset that encompasses base-building, coalition-building, public policy, communications, and field and electoral organizing.
  • Strong team and coalition management skills.
  • Excellent oral communication, public speaking, and writing skills.
  • Experience and comfort working in multi-issue and multi-cultural environments.

This position reports to: Deputy National Political Director

The Center for Community Change recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in the CCC bargaining unit and covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Travel Requirements: This position requires extensive and frequent travel, about 10 days each month.

Salary and Benefits: CCC offers competitive salaries. CCC also offers an excellent benefits package, which includes 4 weeks of annual paid vacation; additional paid holiday leave between December 24 and January 1; 8% employer contribution to retirement account after six months of employment (and 3% employer contribution for the first 6 months); and a choice of generous health insurance plans.
