HeadCount seeks a motivated, creative and organized individual to bring grassroots organizing power in diverse communities to our growing organization. The fellowship is designed to provide a career enrichment opportunity to an early career professional. The HeadCount Community Organizing Fellow will work in a dynamic team environment to plan and implement civic engagement activities in underserved and diverse spaces for the 2018 General Elections.


This is a limited duration position from hire date - November 2018. Fellows will execute voter drives and recruitment events in coordination with the HeadCount field team. Work will include recruiting and engaging volunteers, organizing voter registration drives, participating in event outreach activities, social media outreach, and organizing GOTV events with partner organizations. Fellows will receive appropriate training and learning opportunities to understand field work in electoral based campaigns and organizing. The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter, open to learning, and a great team player. Bilingual candidates preferred.


Job Description & Goals

  • Attend, experience and recruit volunteers at NYC community events. Learn and execute best practices for voter reg and recruitment. Formalize a solid and regular HeadCount presence at NYC events that reach a diverse audience. Work with field interns and recruit new vols to staff these events.

  • Work with local organizations nationwide to assist with staffing and supporting the On The Run Tour

    • Support these relationships to extend beyond this tour. Foster a HeadCount relationship with local teams and these local community groups that are authentically engaging with new audiences. Let the On The Run tour be a jumping off point for longer standing relationships for recruitment and new opportunities.

  • Consider markets w/ strong HeadCount leadership and potential un-tapped music venue residency potential (for example, The Apollo Theatre). Work with local HeadCount leadership, current (or recruit) field interns to ensure consistent staffing. Create a regular HeadCount presence in venues that attract diverse audiences nationwide through the election.

  • With the support of HeadCount's artist relations team, our venue residencies and community events, work with HeadCount's nationwide leadership to ensure 3-5 events that attract diverse audiences are staffed in each of 6 regions every month.

  • Manage communication with HeadCount Team Leaders to ensure success at these events and a focus on recruitment. Share personal experiences with similar events in NYC and serve as a resource to our teams nationwide.

  • General clerical and office activities


This fellowship will last through November 2018 and will require 40 hours/week, with an expectation that 25% of the time will be spent working at voter registration events in the field.
