Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate. The Community Outreach Group (COG) is a part of Planned Parenthood, but a separate organization that supports Planned Parenthood with electoral, advocacy, and other campaigns. COG is a progressive organization that specializes in door-to-door paid canvass programs and runs progressive campaigns with its core values of inclusiveness, empowerment, sustainability, and resourcefulness at the center of its work.
General Description
Community Outreach Group is seeking an enthusiastic Canvass Director to serve in Minnesota as a part of Planned Parenthood of Minnesota Political Action Fund's 2018 electoral field program. The Canvass Director will manage a team of Deputy Canvass Managers, report to a Community Outreach Group Program Director, work with client organizations to supporters in field programs, build and strengthen local leadership, and support the long-term goals of the organization within designated regions.
The Canvass Director will hire and supervise Deputy Canvass Managers, and other staff who will recruit, train, and manage a staff of paid canvassers who will engage communities about a host of issues, but focusing on persuasion and GOTV on behalf of endorsed candidates along with issues related to sexual and reproductive rights. The Canvass Director will be assigned goals for each region, and will be responsible for supporting their team to reach those goals. Ideal candidates will be motivated to complete a specific program, but flexible enough to change tactics as needed.

This is a senior-level role. In this position, you will have the opportunity to:
Be a part of the process for recruitment, hiring, and training of campaign staff
On-board and train new hires so that they understand the big-picture strategy of the campaign, and their role in winning
Supervise campaign staff by setting clear goals, developing work plans, acting as a coach and mentor to ensure employee development, and conducting regular check-ins and offering feedback
Work with field leadership to break overall regional goals down into smaller goals, develop timelines and work plans, and produce reports to tell the story of your team's progress
Participate in and lead paid field campaign tactics
Develop relationships with key political players, opinion leaders, allied organizations and coalitions to build the base of support within the region.
Manage staffing and operations for 1 office with upwards of 100 staff, including both salaried staff and hourly waged staff
Work with coalition partners and key stakeholders to develop and execute a cooperative campaign strategy
Ensure client and organizational satisfaction and completion of all program goals and obligations
Qualifications
Applicants for this position should bring the following experience, knowledge, abilities, and attitude:
Expertise running large scale paid field canvass offices (as many as 75+ shifts per day)
Expertise developing and leading voter contact campaigns (knowledge of both paid and volunteer programs preferred)
Expertise setting goals and deadlines for other people, and coaching teams to meet those goals or deadlines
Experience administering human resources and payroll
Experience monitoring, managing, and enforcing a detailed budget of over $250,000
Strong data analysis skills, and the ability to read a report and take action
Ability to engage with multiple stakeholders, communicate clearly and often, and manage diverse personalities and expectations
Maintain a positive, can do, and solutions oriented attitude in tough situations
Flexible and self-motivated to identify priorities and complete work without being micro-managed
Knowledge of and commitment to progressive causes and progressive management practices
Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekend
Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time

Training new canvass managers and office directors in large scale paid field operations
Has strong ties in the city or state in which you are applying to work
Brings a deep knowledge of or experience in reproductive health issues
Wants to revolutionize paid field into a mass movement building tool
Has worked with and managed complex stakeholder relationships and coalition tables
Knows how to use the VAN voter database software (strongly preferred)
There is no formal education requirement for this position.

Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt, mid-level position with the Community Outreach Group, with an annual base salary of $72,000. Some funds for relocation and short-term housing assistance to offset the increased cost of a short-term lease will be available depending on distance and length of employment contract.
Full-time exempt employees are also eligible for a cell phone reimbursement up to $75/month, excellent employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance
