The Alaska Legacy Project is a new organization focused on ensuring that Alaska's natural resources are utilized to the greatest possible benefit for the people of Alaska. It is being founded around the principle that the best way to conserve Alaska's natural resources and protect its lands and waters for generations to come is by making arguments about economic benefit and self-interest directly to the people of Alaska. The organization will aim to serve curated, policy-oriented content directly to Alaskans across multiple digital platforms. In addition, the organization will work to engage policymakers across the state directly and influence their work with the use of paid and earned media.
We are searching for the first Program Director for this new organization. This role can take on many different forms and is adaptable to suit the skills and talents of the right candidate. All interested candidates should have some personal or professional tie to the state of Alaska, a passion for natural resource protection and the outdoors, and experience with policy, advocacy or political work.
Potential job duties may include:
Work with leadership advisory board to help chart organizational strategy and guide issue engagement decisions, shape forward facing organizational brand and manage organizational resources.
Collaborate on the development of the original organizational branding, website, and initial organizational rollout to the public.
Establish and develop relationships with Alaska elected officials at the federal, state and local levels. Preference for candidates with existing Alaska relationships.
Plan, strategize and generate content across a variety of channels, both written and on-camera video. Preference for candidates with previous on camera experience or published writing.
Work with policy advisors to develop reports, published op-eds, and reporter briefing materials around the return on investment for Alaskans concerning key resource allocation decisions.
Speak directly with reporters about the organization's work and serve as the public face of the organization and its brand.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required.
Previous policy, advocacy, non-profit, political or journalism experience is a plus. Strong preference for candidates with professional experience in Alaska.
Experience managing an organization, a budget, or balancing multiple projects simultaneously is a plus.

Self-driven and creative in a way that helps to generate new ideas for achieving organizational goals
Comfortable working as a part of a team and creating space to hear the ideas of others
Capable managing consultants, contractors and vendors and holding them to deadlines and pushing them to generate high quality work.
